Glenshee Question

Post by Rich H » Sun Sep 11, 2005 10:01 pm

Just been up to Spittal of Glenshee for the first time, excellent run, esp the wiggly middle bit... :D

I set off rather later than expected and didn't have time to go futher up, is it worth carrying on?

I didn't fancy coming back in the dark!

Ended up following a Rover 214i who really new the road, great fun! :D

I feel sorry for all those poor southern types that don't have mountains!

If you only got to the spittal you missed the best bit. It gets really twisty for the next 5 miles up to the ski center and if you keep going the section between there and Braemar is great too.

Tunnel = easy. Head for the Wellgate in Dundee and go past the entrance and through the tunnel. Then head to the roundabout (or circle if you're a dundonian) and go back and do it again :D

From Dundee, if you want a good run, I'd head to Edzell out some back roads (usually the B961, which joins the Arbroath-Brechin road). Go straight through Edzell and just keep going, through Fettercairn and eventually you'll be up the Cairn o'mount. Carry on down the other side and you should see a sign at a junction on the left for Aboyne (B976). Head that way and carry on till you get to Ballater. You can then either go through Ballater onto the A93 or go past, staying on the B976. That road then joins the A93 at Balmoral. You then carry on down to Braemar and onto Glenshee.

Alternatively, you could do it the other way round and head up to Glenshee first.

Oh and where is the best place round here for driver training?

I had a couple of moments where I wish I'd had some!

Pretty sure I reached the limit of my skill (not hard!), but Liz behaved perfectly! Even with me too fast/wrong gear/tightening corner I hadn't seen/etc....

How was the run?
KH is about the only place for driver training round here.
Other options are the Lotus training in Norfolk or Andy Walsh at North Weald in Essex. Or you could wait till Walshy comes back up here but you could be in for a long wait.

spent the day gathering parts for my zorst transplant tomorow I'm afraid! Also been trying to shift the front right flippin wheelarch liner! :x

Headlamp fell out a while back, I just pushed it back for the time being, bought replacment from eliseparts but couldn't be arsed to do the work. Damn rawlnuts siezed solid and the screw heads are made of cheese! Going to have to cut them off I reckon, just worried about damaging the clam.

who had the bright idea of using mild steel on the outside of a car? And why use rubber nuts! Gah!

did e-mail walshy a while ago about training up here but had no respose so far. Looks like I'm in for a looong drive someday soon!
