Elise 111S with 18"s & 17's ??

Post by a4drk » Tue Nov 18, 2014 10:19 pm

I went to view an Elise 111S yesterday for my mate. (Calum who was with me at Oulton / Cadwell Trip)
He's got the bug, so wants a Lotus!

anyway, spotted a nice blue 111S with lots of nice bits / upgrades.
Front brakes have been upgraded to Tarox Callipers & much bigger discs
anyway, apparently, aftermarket alloys had to get fitted so that they fitted over the discs.
look great.
however, question is - how will it handle compared to OEM 17/16's ?
Tyres are Michelin Sport 3 225/40/18 * a 205/40/17 on the front

Going to test drive at the weekend after he MOT's it

any input ?

David

The tyre profiles seem to have been adjusted fairly well so there is virtually no impact to ride height vs standard (front is 1.5 mm lower, rear 1.5 mm higher).

I'd expect it would have a bit more front end grip and a bit worse ride quality. Other factors might have bigger impact - suspension/geo.
Only question is why were bigger brakes thought to be needed? Not like it has slicks, massive power or weight. Personally never had a problem locking up 48s in the dry with diddy standard 2 pots and no cooling issues with the right pads and fluid.

Are the rear brakes also upgraded? hard to tell in the photo but suggestion of 2nd caliper (standard one retained for handbrake maybe?). Be interesting to see what the brake bias is...

It does look great though. :-)

As long as the clearance is good when pushing on and it doesn't fundamentally change the handling as Ali says ( can't be the first one to have bigger wheels).

Good that Calum enjoyed it so much! :-)

The owner shafted him today.

The morning after he agreed the sale price (£250 short of his bottom line)
his father put an advert on Gumtree for the bottom line

and then told him him he sold it for the £250 more.... :o

unbelievable

Some people don't deserve to sell things
Let's hope his new buyer shafts him like he shafted your mate.
