111r conversion kit for S1

Post by Victor Meldrew » Sat Nov 14, 2015 8:34 pm

Just spotted a conversion kit on elise shop web page to fit the longer S2 111r shocks onto an S1 Elise. Has anyone on SE tried this yet?

I have spotted second hand sets of 111r shocks for sale on eBay for reasonable price but always ruled them out as they wouldn't fit.

Red Konis on the car just now. One with signs of leaking.. advisory for MOT.. will be enough to get it going again but dont want to running on Konis for very long.

I think the Quantum Zero are excellent value - may not cost you very much more than 111R conversion kit + dampers unless you go second hand (which means you'll need to replace sooner).

In road spec unless you're planning a load of track days.

The Toyota S2 Exige billys transformed our old Vx220 when fitted, but that was probably 200+ kg heavier than an S1.
Presumably the 111R is heavier too (is it the same spec billys as the Exige?), I guess it might work out well for a harder car than standard Rover S2 Bilstiens, but remember they aren't adjustable.

Something to think about if nothing else...
'16 MINI Cooper S - Family fun hatch
'98 Lotus Elise - Fun day car
'04 Maserati Coupe GT - Manual, v8, Italian...
'18 Mazda Mx5 - The wife's, so naturally my daily
'19 Ducati Monster 797 - Baby bike bike

It was very much a "How can I get my car running well as cheaply as possible" type of question. Second hand Toyota S2's would be generally newer and more likely that any suspension taken off them would be in better condition that older S1's

Budget has already been well and truly bust. Would love a set of Nitrons but that aint going to happen... not this year anyway.
