Young driver insurance

Having a nightmare trying to insure a 111R SC.

I am only 23 which is where the problem starts! I have tried the following:

.Adrian Flux - £1,410
.Performance Insurance - told to fcuk off
.Green Light - told to fcuk off
.CCI - told to fcuk off
.Elephant - told to fcuk off

I have also been quoted with some other site for the likes off £11,000!!!

I have read through the forums and tried most of the recommend, as above. Has anyone else got any recommendations?

Yes, a lot of the main insurers we use have put limits in about min age over last few years. You will have seen that on some of the old threads on here. Only thought I have is my old 111S is now in the hands of someone around similar age to you. Try dropping StevieDee a PM to ask who he is insured with?

That said, insuring sub 25yo on a modified performance car (no matter how factory it is, that SC kit is still classed as a mod) is going to involve some rectal pain, no matter who with...

The Flux quote isn't a million miles away from what I'd expect, sadly.

Aye shrug give them their due, £1,400 is not to bad.

You could try A1. They were the only ones that could get me insurance on N3 last year, 350hp Honda, six month disqualification, six points, one write off claim, 76 years old, £1,600.

Just e-mailed my son Ian, when he took over N1, 220hp Honda, he was 23, several points.

Might be worthwhile joining Club Lotus for about £25 then using their approved insurer and getting a discounted member rate. Footman James it is .
My 2 boggo cars are Direct Line but put I Elise on Footman James as I wanted agreed value, track cover etc. Cost a bit more but suited my requirements .

As DJ posted above I'm now the proud owner of his old Elise S2 111s. I'm insured through DirectLine - think I was around the £900 mark (Policy taken out when I was 21). Don't think you'll get anything much lower than that unfortunately.

One thing I did notice that surprised me though was that my quote dropped if I chose to start my coverage 2 or 3 weeks later than the date I was looking. Was getting very expensive quotes for insuring it from the next day, but set it to the end of that month and it knocked £300 or so off the price.

Might have just been a quirk when I was looking, but worth giving it a shot!

Worth trying to add a parent to the policy as a named driver. I did that when I had my s1 and so long as they have a clean license it might help. Interestingly, they're now of an age they're a liability on the insurance instead of a benefit. Also, when getting quotes, think like an insurance company. When they ask for what industry you work in try to choose the "least risky" but still honest answer. My sister is an accountant (traditionally low risk) but is FD of a construction company (seemingly high risk) and is therefore no longer a named driver on my policy!

Just paid the £1489.17 to Adrian Flux. 2 named drivers, father and father in law.

I hope it comes down next year!

Ouch! I got my exige at 21 with 9points and managed to get insurance for it for about £1100, it's dropped quite considerably I'm 24 now and it's about £700, admiral and the multi car have always been a winner for me!

I found most of the specialists tend not to want to look at you until you are 25/30 which is a pain!

Pay the money keep your nose clean and the figure will drop steadily.
