Urgent accident repair advice required.

On the way to work this morning I was hit by a MPV overtaking an artic on a blind corner!!!

Car ( 2005 S2 111R ) recovered to local garage - front suspension gubbed, both offside wheels buckled and associated body work damage.
Have spoken to insurance they are willing to have car removed to repairer of my choice or local dealer (MMC) - having used WALLYford before for minor work I am not keen on going down the local dealer route- any recomendations.
Did request that car go back to Norfolk but they won't do that -so needs to be central belt (ish).
Oh and I need to call back this afternoon if poss to get things moving asap

Sorry to hear that - I've only had experience of Nationwide in Glasgow with the Elise - It had to be resprayed twice - there were runs in the laquer and bubbles under the paint! - So thumbs down for them!

I'm sure there are a few on here that'd make recommendations!

Are you speaking to your insurers or the MPV insurers? Assuming you believe to be in a no-way-was-it-my-fault-they-admitted-liability situation then I would get a 3rd party claims management company to do the claim against their insurers, get you a nice hire car on the way and have the car repaired somewhere sensible. Or if you want, do it yourself (that's what I have done in the past - never bother talking to my own insurers - just straight on to theirs).

With the mechanical damage you are talking about it should go to the dealer first, or direct to Lotus if you can wangle it.

BTW, if you have damaged suspension on both sides at the front because it was a head on accident, and there is any way you can avoid getting the car back, I would try and get a replacement car out of it.

Robin, Speaking to my insurer, Police got his details,called them straight off as I had doubts that he was legit but just had a call from them & they reckon he has insurance .
Wasn't head on as I took to the verge to avoid that - damage limited to drivers side & didn't look too bad - until I tried to move it, then realised suspension was pushed back.
To be honest I think I will have to get it uplifted to dealers but was hoping there was another local option.
Will try again to get the repair done at Lotus Hethel but from reaction so far don't think they will do it.

Mixed feelings about write off option -given current values probably get f. all back and SWMBO will not want me sinking cash into another one!!

Thanks all for advice, holding off phoning back insurance for next hour or so hoping that someone knows of a better place to go than MMC accident repair?

Sorry to hear that, but at least you are ok!

Having experienced a shunt earlier this year which was repaired by MMC (JMG Perth bodyshop) I can't recommend them I'm afraid...poor job and I'm still having unresolved issues with them 6 months later.

I too insisted it went to a dealer, but in hindsight.....

IIRC you are entitled to be put back in the situation before the accident. SO you can insist that in place of a payment they replace the car. That way you aren't left out of pocket (As Much) This may of course (With all my posts) be utter sh*t. Glad you are ok and he was insured at least!

Steve Walker Bodyshop in Bathgate will deliver a storming cosmetic job for you. Whether he has expertise in detailed structural repairs [to an Elise], I am not certain. Worth asking the question. There may be a way for him to sub that part of the work to a quality outfit of your choice, do the bodywork side himself and handle the whole job on your behalf.

That's what I would do, should the worst happen.

Allied in Glasgow did a good job on mine but I think somebody will be along shortly to tell you that they didn't get the same result. There's another place in Whiteinch Glasgow that always gets a mention but I can't remember the name.

As a new fan of Judes, maybe you could try there.

Whiteinch would be Mitchel Inglis.. did a very good repair job on my clio 172 a few years ago,... but others on here don't rate them???

It would appear there are good and bad storys for any body shop.

Thanks all for advice, phoned insurance late yesterday & tried the 'back to Norfolk' request again but no chance they are budging on that. I eventually agreed that it could go to MMC (Perth), so fingers crossed that they do a good job.
Hoping it is taken up to them tomorrow as they said could do a quick assessment.
Think yesterday I was still a bit stunned by it all now starting to get miffed that some plonker in an A-Team bus ( LHD GMC Safari) has wrecked my baby. Still could have been much worse, I am in one piece and starring into his headlights

at a combined closing speed probably iro 90-100 mph had me thinking it might have been the last thing I saw!!!

I will get around to posting on newbies in the next couple of days - in the meantime thanks again for your information advice and concern. Cheers Keith

In which case, Keith, be VERY clear when you book it in what sort of job you expect, that you are aware of difficulties in the past and expect it to be right first time. No apprentices to lead the job!
