Anyone on here use a Blackberry 8800g or similar. Are the any good?
I seems to fit the bill on what I am looking for but I would like some real feedback from you people I trust rather than some spotty faced pushy sales person who is only after the commission.
(Rich, your obviously exculded from that as we all know you are man of the highest integrity

)
So... is it a good un?
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

John - Blackberrys are brilliant especially when you can use Edge technology rather than GPRS it is much quicker. They have great coverage around the world even in the forrest sof India. I have had an old style one for a long time and have just trialled the Blackberry Pearl which is awesome. So small and light and yet with a great screen and real easy to use with the semi qwerty keyboard and predictive dictionary. I would definately go Pearl rather than 8800 and am pushing work to go that way.

Can a blackberry open a word document attachment? And if so can it alter it and send it back?

No attachments are the one downfall - although it is not what they are meant for!

I want one for work soon as my current contract runs out I will go for one. Finally a Blackberry which is a decent size! Although anyone who has used one of the older models will have to relearn how to type on them as they have changed the way its set out.

TBH i don't really "get" the hype about the blackberry.
Push email isn't really instant so you'd be as well set up a windows mobile / symbian phone to poll your email every 5 mins if you want.
I use an 3G Orange SPV M3100 (Tmobile and O2 have versions of this phone) which strikes the right balance for me. It's not the size of a house and the keyboard is actually usable.
Ive had a play with a Pearl and it was very nice, but again you can get a candybar sized Windows Mobile which will do the same job.
Maybe i've missed something key, but i've yet to have anyone demonstrate why a blackberry is better
Review of my phone here

EDIT : Should say this is my personal phone but the screen is so good i can and do use it to access my Outlook Web Access

Jamie even after two years heavy use of an old Blackberry I only took an hour or two to fall in love with the Pearl and wondered how I ever coped with the big chunky old version. The semi qwerty keyboard is very easy to use especially with the predictive dictionary. Can't wait to get my Pearl when we resign or contract with O2 - bloody contracts department on go slow as usual.

am not a big fan of the blackberry, i think it is cause of the impractical qwerty keypad. too small!?
am seriously considering the new O2 Xda Orbit.
any thoughts anybody?
i had used an HP IPAQ previously and it crashes so very often (was told the windows mobile software crashes atleast once a month. but again not sure if that is true with all the models)

I've got the O2 XDA Exec which I've had for about 18 months. I got it because it allows me remote access to my desktop in the office or to the servers. It's not ideal but it's means that I can take it places that I can't take a laptop for emergencies.
I don't have a separate phone which is a bugger as it's a bit bulky day-to-day. I've had a quick look to see if there's anything new on the market to replace it, but there doesn't appear to be.

IMHO Windows Mobile 5 doesn't crash any more often then the version of Symbian i had on my P900.
I'm not windows biggest fan but i've now had a mobile 5 phone for 1.5 years and they're very good.
Orbit looks nice but has no keyboard which would rule it out for me.
O2 Xda Mini S is the GPRS version of my phone.

I've had a Blackberry (model 7290) for a year. I use it everyday out on the road when I'm visiting customers I can then download all my records back at the office and view them using microsoft outlook. It's simple to use with its qwerty keyboard (I'm no use with this predictive text) and its scroll wheel also when I'm on the road I automatically receive all my emails from cutomers or the office and I can open pdf, word and excel files. I can't comment on the newer models but I've heard the pearl is superb. I switched from a Treo 650 (which I still have) which has far more features and downloads.

My mate's wife calls it the 'Gooseberry'...
I'd rather be without to be honest. Would be too much stress.
I have roaming fast access from the laptop card but laptop off = not working.
