I might pop up with one of the kids, weather dependant. I took them to 1 or 2 meets a couple of years ago when I was contemplating doing the XR2's... but think they were too young to be interested.

I tried them at a HM meet at the start of this year and they were a bit better behaved.

What do you race Matt?
I have no signature.

Cheers Dezzy!

Gorrie, am competing in the Classic Sports class in a yellow/black/red '73 911. Amongst other cars (Louts Europa, BMW2000, Renault Alpine etc) am up against a couple other similar spec 911s, the drivers of which have a tad more racing experience than me :?

Hop on over and say hello if you make it on Sunday.

Some of the caterham boys hung around after the sidc day and watched the practice sessions. The karts were just awesome. The speed they carry through duffus was incredible.

Also a very impressive trojiero??SP which none of us had ever seen before and a britcar marcos.

Could that be a Tojeiro Jaguar? - 1950's special body with (I think) D Type mechanicals?

Nope, I spoke to him... was a Tojeiro Ford - Ford GT40 V8 IIRC 8)

He looked a bit put out when I embarrassingly had to confess I hadn't heard of a Tojeiro

Race report... um ok then....

Race 1
qualfied p2 on the grid alongside Mike Nisbet (white 911) and got a great start. Led pretty much from then on until the rain began to pick up and grip deteriorated. (didnt realise how much rain there was as RainX made it difficult to guage) Lap 7 ran wide on exit of chicane and had all 4wheels off the track :? , managed to keep it straight and get back on the black stuff, but Adam (Red 911) overtook me by Clarks. Fortunatley i had the better line going into clarks and higher exit speed (and my car having the legs on adams) meant that I took back 1st posn by the hairpin. Up the straight on the penultimate lap I noticed Mike Nisbets porsche passing adam in my rearview mirror.... This was the first time i had seen mikes car since the start line as apparently Mike had spun off earlier and had then worked his way up from the back of the grid. By McIntyres he had caught up and I tried to cover the inside, but a gutsy move on Mike's part meant he was alongside by the apex so i couldnt shut him off. In the end I had to settle for 2nd.

Race 2 - wether conditions had improved... quite sunny.
Second race starts from a reversed grid posn, so i was in 14th. First corner is always interesting in a reversed grid start, however we all managed it safley round and by a couple of laps was into 3rd following Adam and Willie Toye (TR8 3.5 V8 ). Spent most of race watching the two of them battling it out. The two of them eventually made contact while exiting the hairpin, this sent Wille oversteering into the inside of the corner at the apex, he kept his foot on the throttle spraying up a torrent of stones and dirt onto the track and directly over the front of my car. I had no choice but to drive straight thru. Cue horrible crunching and cracking sound as both headlamps smashed, bumper+bonnet chipped to hell and windscreen cracked
Image
Upon exiting the hairpin I was faced with Adams car pretty much side on oversteering across the track  , managed to avoid, but had lost speed which allowed Mike to overtake me up the straight.
A few laps on I managed to overtake Mike who was being held up by the back markers, but my time in 2nd was to be short lived as he was soon catching me and again up the straight I made an attempt at blocking his overtaking but didnt want to put him on the grass. Its quite an experience hoofing it up the main straight trying to block someone overtaking, with him 2foot to your right, and the leader 15foot ahead also trying to block him... what a buzz
In the end it was Mike 1st, Adam 2nd and myself 3rd.

I should probably mention that as Mike's car has a 3.6 engine (post '89) so it falls foul of the classic class regulations (pre '79 with engine being a production part when car was manufactured). This resulted in his car having 100hp more than mine and Adam's cars.

Next race is June24th and will proably see the return of Stan Bernard (911) and Al Flemming (Lotus Elan), so i'll have my work cut out for me then.
Hopefully ill have the old girl patched up by then and will make it out... cant wait!!!

Great report! :)

Sorry to hear about the damage though...Had a similar thing happen to me when I raced the Caterham - On a test day one of the MINI's careered off the track at the chicane, and returned showering me with stones...Pretty much the same level of damage...(headlights / windscreen / shot blasted nose! )

Must confess, I haven't managed to get up there on an SMRC day for a while - Have only made the BTCC the last couple of years... :(

Definitely try and make more of an effort now I know one of the SE gang is taking part!

Look forward to seeing you take the fight to Stan & Al...(!!!)

Ross.

P.S. Tried a similar line through the hairpin during a race in the Caterham...Thankfully no stones present back then!!
