stopped by the police -aberdeen

Guys, just a warning to be more careful. i just got pulled over for having a small front plate, then the bugger decided to check my tyres. one of them were below the legal limit! really pissed off as i got back from my holiday last week and was planning to get the tyres change very soon! What even annoyed me more was that the tyre was wearing unevenly, so it was only 1 or 2 sections that was below the limit, majority of the tyre was ok. i basically had the tyre pressure too high, so it wore out in the centre, but when i got it serviced not so long ago, the guy told me and decreased the pressure.

i tried to use excuses, but he wasn't having it. I guess he looked at me and thought nice car, young guy, i'm going to hand him some points. so its £30 for the plate & £60 + 3 points for tyre!

i had loads of police drive past me and saying nothing, and these ones actually made a effort to chase after me!

Will this make my insurance shoot straight up? As for the rear tyres, wheres the best place to buy and get fitted in Aberdeen. Best get this sorted asap don't want to be stopped again! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yup, been mentioned on here quite a bit, Police in Aberdeen WILL stop you for a small front plate/miss spaced etc. and you WILL get 3 points.

I was stopped at Great Southern Road about a hour and a half ago (8ish). it was a white marked jag.

Ed - yeah, heard about wheelsaround but would rather go somewhere local in case i get stopped on my way down....totally got me really paranoid now

Any Aberdeen people know where to go?

This is why I think it's not worth the hassle antagonising the police with small plates/no plate etc. In their eyes, they probably see it as he's purposely breaking the law by having a small plate so probably knows, and doesn't care, that his tyre is illegal. I'm not implying that's what you thought but if you'd had legal plates then they might have believed that you were unaware of the tyre and given you a warning...maybe...or maybe you just didn't pass their attitude test and they took a dislike to you! Bad luck anyway

Said it before and will say it again, illegally spaced number plates are just that, you're askin to be stopped! It puts you straight into that chav, boy racer category the police (and everyone else) hates. Itâ€™s a conscious effort to break the law, thereâ€™s no come back from that.

No number plate however - one that has just fallen off due to illegally high council speed bumps

"let me just get it from the boot officer" "fell off two minutes ago" "I can show you where... no?".

*I have one on now* - too lazy to pull it off since MOT. But went 2 years without being stopped.

I've used Laws at Bridge of Don before - they seemed fine. I made a point of standing over them and watching their every move mind!

You may struggle to get them to supply 48s but if you source them from elsewhere they will fit them

As regards the tyre? Id check up on that. I thought that its only finable if more than 75% of the tread is less than the specified 1.6mm wiht the remaining tread must be more than 1mm. Half of the cops on the streets dont know the rules and if you querie them they usually question themselves and back off. Of course you have to do this in the correct manner ie querie not question.
As for the plate I run, with a small front plate but just like scotty keep a broken one in the boot and tell them ive got a proper one on order.

My plate lives in the boot - since Shug's skip incident the body shop "neglected" to fit the front plate plinth

Sillets have always been great. been buying tyres there for 10+ years never had a problem yet. He will also fit loose tyres.

Isn't it the centre 2/3rds (or 3/4) that needs to be on or above the minimum, i.e. it's only the outer edges that are allowed to be below the limit.

I don't get out in the car enough for Plod to get upset about my compact and bijoux plate!

Oh, and it's not so small that the "Safety" Camera vans can't read it...

...Got nicked on the motorway near home recently for a few mph over Her Majesty's Pain Threshold, asked for the video evidence and you could have read my plate from a couple of miles away

OK well maybe a couple of furlongs, but point is, std font at 3/4 size is NOT troubling ANYONE. Dodgy font/spacing on the other hand, well, m'lud...
