Hello guys,
The biggest problem with forum (this one or other, whatever the subject) is lost images, so technical topic became an empty shell
In some forum, images are uploaded and hosted in the server of the forum, indirect link are forbidden.

Greetings, Julien

Plus point for discord maybe? Pictures are stored indefinitely and don't need additional hosting.

The images will be deleted though if you link externally, I.e. if you try and use discord as image hosting.

No having to pay for Tapatalk. Free version is so advert heavy.

One other thing on discord. If you are already on here try and keep your original user name. Just for the sake of identity.

And posts are limited to 2000 characters which for some of the technical posts, especially rebuilds, is quite limiting. If you want to keep it all in one post at the top of the thread.

I have already managed to create two Discord accounts :-). It turned out I had one from before when the kidz got me to set it up as part of some experiment during COVID.

My 2p.

Use WA for the banter and current (track day/car news) affairs section of the community.
Leave technical here on phpbb.
Update the phpbb server to support image upload directly so that people don't have to pfaff about with image hosting. That'll cost some money, but I suspect we'll be fine if we shake the tin.

Create pointers to technical from any other platforms so that people can come here to find it.

Create pointers from all the other phpbb topics to the WA community and make them read-only here.

Thanks for stoking the dying embers and good luck setting up the WAC. :thumbsup

It’s a pity that this place doesn’t get used much these days and I am glad that I managed to join up and meet new friends along the way back in 2010. If I was new to Lotus now though, I doubt that I would join up, as when looking from the outside, there is nothing really getting organised for newbies to come along to. I used to like reading the Technical Section when anyone was asking for some assistance and the response was great in getting the problem solved and I was always amazed of the technical knowledge available on the SE Forum. I particularly remember one occasion when my Elise wouldn’t start while away for the weekend up in Ullapool. I called the AA and Kathy suggested to put up a post on here and within minutes, there were suggestions on what to check and do. The AA soon arrived but in the meantime Robin had already came up with the correct solution to the problem and we were soon on our way. The various camping trips years ago were always great and I miss the beach fires, watching the sunset and the usual banter into the early hours, but not Ian D deciding to go for a swim just before bedtime. I used to laugh when seeing the rest of our group first thing in the morning and hear how there was people still drinking and waiting until sunrise before turning themselves in for the night. Also, Ian Boag telling the story of how he couldn’t get into his tent because he thought that aliens had landed and had made a forcefield around his tent had me in stitches and still makes me laugh. Ian had only opened the outer fly sheet and had tried to gain entry, but he kept bouncing off of the ‘forcefield’. It tuned out that he had forgotten about the inner tent and had been bouncing off the insect net. :damnfunny

At least the trackday chat is very active on WA, but with Lotus themselves taking a different direction in recent years regarding the type of cars that they are producing, I haven’t seen anyone buy one of their cars and join up. It is really a shame that other people are missing out on this great community of friends and I have really enjoyed everything with you all over the years. Let’s see how the WAC progresses and maybe James Ford can be the first new member on there and possibly help bring in the next generation.

As they say, ‘Use it, or lose it’.

Steve.

I like the idea. Had a quick look at the examples and it looks about right.

I don’t do Facebook, insta or TikTok nor do I want to. I’m a person not a commodity

I left the tut group as I had too many groups. I left the whisky group as I don’t drink whisky so had little to add. I left the trackday group as I’m not doing car Trackdays.

I check in here every quarter roughly and don’t have an issue skimming over missed content, not much to be fair, mainly to see the meets and trackday forums to see what’s going on. Recently was looking for the chat around the Oulton double header around October ish but couldn’t see any, maybe I should’ve stayed in the trackday WA group.

I would prefer not to have another app to not check although I don’t really mind either way if the majority decide that way. Tapatalk isn’t great with glitches and adds.

Go for it I say. Good work Campbell.

You should have stayed in the WhatsApp Trackday Group then.

There are now a large amount of people doing trackdays that are in that chat, but who are not on SE and the banter is always good. The trackday group has by far the biggest activity now and some of the guys have just been to a Spa double header on Monday and Tuesday this week.

Ps, your legendary Frolic fly-bys while drinking a bottle of coke got a mention at last years Frolic. :drive

If I ever get back into track days I shall ask to join that group.

But will be a dangerous distraction otherwise. Perhaps that’s why D left
