Elise - Honda Engine - Gearbox

Post by Daveb » Mon May 21, 2007 11:22 am

I know there are guys who are using Honda engines in their Elises.

Do these use the Honda or Rover gearbox?

Would the rover gearbox fit on the honda engine?

I think the biggest problem is that the honda engine rotates the other way from the rover (though this is hearsay - I don't actually know for sure which way it turns).

The duratec conversions use the rover box, which should in theory make for a cheaper conversion (no issues with driveshafts, clutch and gear linkages to work out).

Cheers,

I thought that was the older generation of honda engines that sat the other way round in the bay, ie. the engine would be on the passenger side. Surely (like a FWD A series) if the Honda sits on the RHS and rotates the other way it'd need an extra gear set in the box (eating more power) or it'd have 6 reverse gears and one forward?

Well obviously the Honda rotates the other way because when you look at it in the engine bay the "Honda VTEC" badge is upside down
