Cost of powder coating wheels?

Right, got home tonight and decided to take the wheels off so that I can have them powder coated.
I think that I am just going to take them to IPF (?) in Glenrothes tomorrow but was wondering if anybody had a rough idea of what the cost per wheel might be?
Also am I wrong to assume that they will arrange to take the tyres off and on and then re-balance the wheels?
I intend phoning them and Coatech, Carnoustie for quotes in the morning, however IPF Glenrothes would be much more convenient for me.

While I was in the garage, I decided to try and remove my front and rear grills. Joy of joy all screws came away with no bother what so ever. that said, i did remove them about 3 years ago and replaced the rawlnuts at the time. I think I will now make a point of removing them at least once a year to clean behind them.
I also arrange to have the grills coated whilst I am at it.

Just had a couple of sets powdercoated, it worked out at £140 a set

Had a set done (the ones I sold 16" fronts 17" rears) at a place in Glasgow £100 . No removal or refitting of tyres though in that price, but I was getting new tyres anyway.

I was considering leaving them until I next needed tyres, but getting hacked off by how bad they look. Even using it as a weak excuse to myself as a legitimate reason for "needing" to by an S2 Exige

Coatech were looking for 250 to refurbish and powdercoat 5 wheels off the Toyota 4x4. I ams sure that that price was a 1 day service, ie drop off the car in the morning, they take off wheels/ tyres/do wheels/ re-fit tyres/balance wheels/ refit then collect last thing at night.

Yeah removed, refitted and balanced (seem to have actually made a good job of the balancing, a lot better than the tit who first fitted the tyres )


It worked out at £290 for- a set of 4 16 in s2 fronts finished in white, my 17in vx set finished in black also finished in black the handbrake grip, fuel filler ring, window winders and passenger footrest.

That was from the place Dezzy recommended at the kingston bridge

As an OAP I get a special rate of £25/wheel.

Coatech do indeed do a premium 1 day service, but if you can leave the rims about 3 days to dry properly, it's £40 per corner for full service including tyre refit and balance.

I personally wouldn't chance the 1-day route on any wheel, let alone an Elise rim which is prone to damage if overheated / dried too fast etc.

Coatech have done 2 sets for me now and the results are great. (Not entirely perfect, I should say...but for the price and service, just great).

Stewart. Please dont use coatech. They knackerd my Esprit wheels. I also caught them grit blasting them, with the same cabinet that they blast steel wheels in. This would impregnate small parts of steel into the alloy, causing distimalar corrosion between two types of metal. The wheels were also covered in runs . I have used IPF on many times, and they do a first class job. By firstly chemically stripping the paint of, and then bead blasting them. Their finished product is far better than Coatech. I think it was £30.00 per wheel inc VAT.

Oh i forgot to say that blasting, and recoating wheels was part of my job, when i was in the RAF. So i do know what im talking about.

I phoned IPF the other day. They charge £35 per wheel. I've got a feeling that they don't take the tyres off for you but you would have to check with them.

Noted. Do you think your rims were a particularly specialist type? Both sets I had done were relatively standard styles / materials, and on the earliest set (now some 3 years or more since done I think), no probs whatsoever.
