Just saw the "how large is your head" bit on that ebay advert.

Mine is 25". Thats not L, XL but XX-Large.

Feck me I have a huge noggin! Do javelin cater for the "larger headed" individual or am I going to have to buy an oversize helmet for my mahoosive dome?

I'm at work and don't have a measuring tape handy so used a length of headphone wire. I then compared this to the length of a piece of A4 paper wich is 297mm. It was approximately double this minus about 2cm. Which equated to about 58cm - a medium. Gotta love improvisation.

I looked at buying a helmet for a while and was advised to spend as much as possible. I bought a Bell @ £250, which is snell and fia approved. I was also told that once a helmet is droped from say 5ft onto a hardish surface, this can actually weaken the structure, thus not providing as much protection as it was designed to take.

I feel that £100 is not enough to spend on protecting one's head while on a trackday. Go with a popular make such a peltor, arai, bell etc.

Soem trackdays don'r allow open faced helmets with soft tops.

As long as the helmet has at least some form of approval (ACU Gold sticker, SNELL, BS etc.) it will provide the required protection. You can pick up an OMP BS6658 apporved helmet for about £90 from Demon Tweeks if that's your limit. Also FM do some decent ones at low prices. The main point is to buy one that fits properly. Don't just try one on yourself as you won't get it right. Make sure you get someone to show you how it should fit, that's what I did and I ended up with a smaller one than I'd have picked out myself.
I tried a Bell, it made my forehead go red and numb after about 15 minutes so I took it back. Got an HJC one from Hein Gericke instead and it's a much better fit.
