This is quite a timely post as a mate of mine is about to have a garage-related problem.
The garage is wide enough and just long enough to fit 2 cars. He has a Range Rover Sport and gets his 911 Turbo in the next week. He's measured it and reckons he'll have 9cm total clearance between back wall / cars / front door. As you can imagine, it's not really something you want to get wrong when parking.
I've thought about the marks on the wall but I thought it would be easy to get wrong if your head was in the wrong position! I like the idea of the rope though - that's pretty good.
Any other suggestions? (apart from sell one and get a Lotus instead

its was actually velcro.
looped over the beams.
never thought about the wind blowing it tho - that would suck.
could put a nails either side of the rope/velco to stop it blowing away.
i did get it wrong looking for marks on the wall, hence why i went to a dangling thing

Best thing would be to put a tennis ball at the end of the rope/velcro.
It could move in the wind but would only cause an issue in really windy conditions and you would see it moving. If the rope/velcro does brake it is unlikely that a tennis ball would cause any damage to the car also

Couple of bits of wood comming out from wall to where wheels should stop. Absolute precision and quick and easy to park without any worries. I also had reflectors out of Poundland that were stuck on the wall just so that they were visbile on each side. As long as you could see ones either side you knew that you were perfectly lined up for the bits off wood. Meant to say I always reversed into my garage.

Yeah, bits of wood is the perfect solution.
Just wondering whether you can ever get the wood off the garage floor if you use "No more nails extreme"

I can imagine on a windy day the rope would be out and all of a sudden you could end up reversing into the back wall. That is why I have used big felt pens marks on the walls so that I know how far back I can go.

Tennis ball on a rope; worked a treat for my mother for years
When I kept my autotest car on it's trailer in the garage, I had a wee red line on the floor to line up the trailer wheel with; worked well when reversing a trailer into the garage, late at night, with a van with no rear windows.

I've got too much junk in the garage at the moment to get 2 cars in, so it's an easy park for the Lotus. I just leave it kinda diagonal.
The old garage had an airbrick at exactly the spot I needed my front tyres to be on the TVR & Fury, and then the carpet was required on the wall because it was very tight to get in/out.
I have no signature.

thanks for the ideas guys . the wait is absolutly killing me ..especially when cars that are perfect come and go on pistonheads etc . just hoping a beauty pops up at the right time . totally gutted the garage last night, think i will go with the wood on the floor , maybe just fix it with some bolts right on to the deck . That should stop me going to far , but the bit that worrys me most is sqeezing through the sides were its quite tight
