Can anyone tell me what this is? Please!

Post by Jo23 » Fri Jul 06, 2007 9:11 pm

Hey all. I had my new T reg elise in May and wrote it off in this rubbish weather 31 days after buying it! Gutted!

Anyway, got my insurance pay out and i have been looking for a new elise and have come across a beauty at a good price, i think. Iv'e only just found it and i don't know if it's an s1 or what? I don't really know what i'm looking at, except that its a beautiful 51 plate, blue elise.

I will call the garage tomorrow but from the description it just looks like it is a normal ins group 17!? I know how fast you reply and im desperate to know, i can't wait to call the garage tomorrow. Can anyone tell if this is a standard one the same as my standard T reg please?

Thanks, Jo.

Its a s2 2001 racetech. The sticker on the back (PTP) means its been tuned a bit.... Looks like it says PTP140. Would be a bit faster(and more expensive to insure if you declared it).

Edit; can you not tell from looking at it that its not the same shape as your old one? :D

It's a S2 Elise so the new version of your T reg.
Mileage is a little high for me but might not be for you.

Have a look on http://www.pistonheads.com for a wider range of S1 and S2 Elises.
Also look on http://www.seloc.org

Thank you.
Haha, yes, i did notice it looked different ;) But i don't really know too much about cars, i've just always liked the look of the elise.

I know it's done a few miles, it just really caught my eye. My last one was just silver and that's what i was looking for this time coz i still have the hard top roof (luckily it wasnt on in the accident), but there doesn't seem to be many decent ones for sale at that price at the moment.

I did find that pistonheads, i'll have a look at both of your links. Auto trader isn't showing too much and i've had a look using google but cant really find much, always nice outside but have random colours inside. Call me boring but i just like black interior.

Do you think the mileage is too high then? I was used to the tigra, which had done 101kmiles! Are elises not too good after a certain mileage? I know that the low mileage on my elise was one reason why i only lost £700 on it through claim. It just looked a decent price.

Thanks for your help, Jo :)

Price is not bad, but its more down to the history and what its had done - have dampers been replaced, what tyres etc. That one will probably have bright blue suede inside.

My 70k s2 was spot on to drive after I spent some money on it, but my 40k mile s1 was tired and needed bits replaced.

Small world, Katie (my wife) is doing an OU degree in psychology so as to be able to take a masters in ed. psy. - she's a natural if you ask me - but there you go, you have to have the bit of paper before you can do the job. She took my elise to school once (when she still taught) - caused a few odd looks in the car park ;-)

Cheers,
Robin

I've bought lots of cars when money and car-lust have been controlling my brain and have always regretted it. You will sell your hardtop for good money on Ebay so don't worry too much about getting a S1 in the right colour again.

If it was me* I'd take my time, haggle hard and buy privately. Use the money you save buying privately to pay to have the car checked out by an independent specialist and use the report to haggle.

As for S1 vs S2. S2 are easier to live with every day they are quieter, they leak less. S1s are cooler though and lighter.

Pete

*Actually if it was me I'd buy the first one I saw in the right colour but I know what I SHOULD do.

Just looking on pistonheads. They aren't that badly priced are they? The s2 tourer is only ins group 17! That has cheered me up, but i guess the incresed value will add on to insurance price won't it?

I dread getting insured next year without my four years no claims and only being 22, i had a task finding decent insurance quotes this time! I'll have to find a kind family member to let me go on their insurance, hehe.

I just completed my MSc in Psychology with the open university couple of months ago. Took me 3 years, which isn't bad for a post grad considering I was working F/T. Learning with the O.U. is pretty unique, takes a lot of perseverence from both the student and their spouse!

Im 25, and my car's gp20. Try Elephant.co.uk for an online quote and use the registration of the car you're looking at if possible. Good luck!
