Car looks fab JJ. :thumbsup

like you said, the red alcantara interior interior is a love/hate thing.
I loved mine to start with but recently bought some black alcantera from ebay and refaced the dash panels/steeringwheel/door cards/sill protectors. Kept the red/black seats tho.

Graeme at mmc mentioned that the alcantara would have come with the sports seats (with harnesses?), but my car has the normal seats so must have had a seat change at some point.

Just been out to try and jack it up, and my trusty halfords jack which has been OK clearance-wise on the other cars now doesnt fit, doh. Also noticed the flexi is blowing, but its not as big as ones I have previously seen, its only about 10cm long?

Might have a spare flexi at home, will check tonight
That would be awesome. There is a hole in the middle tray for the flexi to poke out, but its nowhere near it; the lowest point of the manifold more or less sits in the hole. I thought it maybe had a different manifold.

Sounds like mine - and the manifold should be the same as a 160 & 340R

I would guess that the undertray is common with the elise, so the oval cut out is for the normals elise downpipe's flexi.

IIRC the Exige has a janspeed 4:1 with flexi as standard. Janspeed make the flexi section if you need a spare.

As for fuel consumption, get the whole thing set up with verniers (if it's the 190 kit it should have verniers already?) and an emerald or DTA with wideband lambda feedback. Sure it'll cost you ~1K to get this sorted, but that's only 1000L of fuel - the engine should be able to return 35mpg on steady throttle cruise, but yours is probably doing 25mpg, so you'll get your money back in fuel after about 4,000 miles.

There is no reason for it to be lumpy on idle either - with the throttle bodies it has, properly balanced for airflow on idle, it should idle pretty smoothly.

Don't forget to rebuild the engine in 25K miles ;-)

Cheers,
Robin

Sounds like a trip to Newcastle for a tweak is required for the near future then, as describing the idle as smooth would be pushing it.

Just worked out mpg after reading your post and for the 500 miles so far its been 30mpg give or take.

190 kit bizarrely didn't include verniers, but a solid wheel with different (fixed) timing, IIRC. Seems to be one of the main reasons to just plump for the Emerald/Vernier/RR sesh as opposed to the Lotus kit.

It has always amazed me that Lotus got away with releasing the S1 Exige with an engine that seems to have been a bit of a work in progress. Pretty bizarre when you think about it - a car that cost well over 30k new which doesn't seem to run quite right unless you fit a new ECU and other assorted bits :?

Similar argument I levied at the S2 Exige and its ECU and the reflash - and I guess with the number of faults of any production Lotus, its the way small manufacturers work.

edit: obviously the yota is far better worked out than the VHPD K but you know what I mean

The 177 was emissions (sort of) friendly. The 190 was sold as Track Only.

Does that mean all the 190 cars were "upgraded" at the dealer if they were track only or were they like that from the factory?

I think you could request it with the track option from new - in which case the factory could bolt the bits on. Otherwise, it was a dealer-fit.
