Crap Dezzy!! :o :(

Knew nothing about this, been off-line all weekend too. Now reading this a bit shocked.

Sorry to see the pics of your car, and read about the incident.

Hope all works out okay.

If I can help in any way, get in touch.

Dezzy

Just caught up with all of this. Really sorry to hear about the bump :( but glad to hear that most importantly you are ok and back on the road again. I'm sure that you'll be gutted about the Liz (as I would too), but as others have said, you will be back in a newer, shinier (better?) one again soon. :)

Just heard from insurance company. Car has been confirmed as a total loss.

I'm actually happy that it is, as I wouldn't have felt comfortable driving it again, knowing what has happened.

They've offered me a reasonable value, but still not as much as what I believe the market value is, so sending them a few MMC and other dealer adverts to negotiate a better offer.

Always refuse the first offer, they'll expect it, then after the second offer send them the MMC or other dealer ads, not private ads. (if second offer is still low)

She refused to negotiate on the phone, so I've to send her the MMC ads.

Nizzy . . . if I'm allowed to take it, I'd gladly give it to you mate! I'm hoping I can maybe get the soft top and definitely my pagids.

Good luck Dezzy! They always try and low-ball first offers.

You'll not get anything back from the car. Once you accept an offer -it becomes the insurance company's- then they sell it to a breaker to recover some of their losses.

Unless you were to visit a yard where car is and ask them very nicely.

We removed a good few bits from bros car, but they might notice if things like seats / pads were missing. I guess you could have had roof off and at home when you crashed.....

You can normally buy the car back for the salvage value which I think is about 10% of the insurance payout.

pics look like it was a sore one...
sure you'll be back on the road in no time :thumbsup

(and i visited the yard that my mini was held at and asked if i could go and remove my belongings from the car - took all 4 headrests out (which all had monitors in them) and the monitor out the dash.. they didnt say a word!! by the time i got back to say my goodbyes guy told me they had stripped it of xenons alloys badges etc before sending it away to the insurance company - so i'd suggest you take what you can or they will...!!

Dezzy, I was told I could have anything off the car as long as I replaced it with standard. I took replaced as meaning, along with the car. Not fitted to.

So if you have an after market I.C.E it might be worth a visit to the scrapy's with the old one in hand. Also your Hurricane, I have an old air box you could leave in its place, and don't forget your CG-Locks too.

I was in no state to get bits off mine, but did think about it. Selling the Soft top would have paid the excess.

Agree with you on total loss being a good thing. Linda certainly expressed that she wouldn't be getting in ours again if it had been fixed. Then again she saw it, I didn't.

Great that they have come back so soon with an offer (shows you have nothing to worry about PF wise). I think you can refuse the offer 3 times, but if you have a bunch of ads, then they can hardly offer less. Second offer they gave me was £1,500 more, so stick in.
No, No! not Bloke. It's pronounced Black, as in Plaque

The soft top is with the car. Hmmmm . . .

I called the salvage company (Universal in Denny) and they said I'd need to ask the insurance company about taking such things. You think I could get away with saying I'm there to collect personal belongings and then take my roof, pagids and hurricane from the car? My hurricane (and exhaust) is declared on the policy so they might notice it's missing when the insurance co pick it up?

I already got CG locks, tax disc and all personal items from the car. I even took my metal screws that hold the carpet mats in place (I replaced the standard plastic ones). Maybe I should grab the storage net too.

Cheers,
D
