Ended up in a police chase

Post by Dominic » Fri Aug 10, 2007 6:12 pm

Left work this afternoon. After 5 mins, I found myself following what was clearly a drunk driver :drink . He was all over the road, and generally going along at 20 - 25mph. Called the cops, who kept me on line. I gave them a running commentry of progress... only point I lost the drunk was when he ran a red light  ... however I was back behind him soon after, as he was stopping at some green lights :? Friday afternoon traffic resulted in me following the guy for about 20 mins.. keeping a safe distance. After about 5 mins, the control centre had patched me thru to the traffic car, so they could hear me (I could not hear them). Eventually, the traffic guys made it thru the traffic, and pulled in behind the guy.

What followed was like a scene from one of the car chase shows / comedy shows on TV   .. The guy would not stop, or let the cops past, after about 3/4 mile, they managed to get past, and run him off the road :drive . They swiped his car key, and hauled him out the car. He could bearly stand! :tard

One of the cops asked if I was in the force  ... complemented me on my commentry 8) (must stop watching so many car chase shows  ) & thanked me for my help.

I'm never keen to stick my nose in where it's not wanted, or trouble cops over nothing, but I could see from this guys driving that he was destined to hurt someone... could not ignore that. Looks like he should at least get charged with; drink driving, failing to stop, driving without due care....

(was a new experience for me being on that side of a police chase)

Hope you were on hands-free Dom.... ;)

Quite right BTW... well done. My wife was knocked down by a hit & run (suspected drunk) on the High Street in Edinburgh. She wouldn't let me take her to hospital and insisted we still went clubbing  She felt it the next day though....

Well done Dominic  , must clearly be a day for idiots  :? I followed a van on the A68 with the driver reading a news paper perched on the steering wheel ........ This went on for about ten mins till he clocked me trying to take a picture ...at this point he dumped the paper and out the window his arm shot gesturing with short hand movements that went up and down ..........have a clue what he meant :?:  ,however I think it got his mind back to driving

Quite right too Dom

I managed to get a drunk driver stopped at Helensburgh years ago after he nearly knocked me off my motrobike in the car park while reversing. Was a gobby sh*t and was going to punch my lights out, which I reckon he could have done. So a quick word with a Police man round the corner got him sorted out. Watched the whole incident from a safe vantage point.

Also got my old Boss and the Transport Manager in my old work both done for drink driving after they tried to sack me rather than make me redundant. They always went to the pub for lunch while we were out slogging our guts out so a tip off to the local traffic cops saw them get their due reward.
