Dezzy, I was told I could have anything off the car as long as I replaced it with standard. I took replaced as meaning, along with the car. Not fitted to.

So if you have an after market I.C.E it might be worth a visit to the scrapy's with the old one in hand. Also your Hurricane, I have an old air box you could leave in its place, and don't forget your CG-Locks too.

I was in no state to get bits off mine, but did think about it. Selling the Soft top would have paid the excess.

Agree with you on total loss being a good thing. Linda certainly expressed that she wouldn't be getting in ours again if it had been fixed. Then again she saw it, I didn't.

Great that they have come back so soon with an offer (shows you have nothing to worry about PF wise). I think you can refuse the offer 3 times, but if you have a bunch of ads, then they can hardly offer less. Second offer they gave me was £1,500 more, so stick in.

The soft top is with the car. Hmmmm . . .

I called the salvage company (Universal in Denny) and they said I'd need to ask the insurance company about taking such things. You think I could get away with saying I'm there to collect personal belongings and then take my roof, pagids and hurricane from the car? My hurricane (and exhaust) is declared on the policy so they might notice it's missing when the insurance co pick it up?

I already got CG locks, tax disc and all personal items from the car. I even took my metal screws that hold the carpet mats in place (I replaced the standard plastic ones). Maybe I should grab the storage net too.

Cheers,
D

If everything is declared on the policy make sure you get the money for it, and if you have recently put new tyres on it let them know that as well.

As it's still your car I don't see any reason why you can't take your softtop etc

The insurance company will see it as being part of the car. They are paying you for a complete car, all but a damaged one. e.g. I was told that I could take the head unit that I had put in, as long as I replaced it with the standard one I took out. Same with the induction kit, as long as I put the Air box back.

On the other hand, if the soft top is NOT on the car at the moment. I'd go and rescue it from the boot, and claim it was a big kite

I would go and strip the car of anything worth taking off.

When a friend rolled his car a while back he went to the garage to inspect the car to find they had already stripped several things our including a £600 airbox. He phoned the insurance to complain and they basically couldnt give a monkeys.

Phoned insurance company and they have given me permission to remove the hurricane induction kit and replace with the standard airbox (which I'll just be leaving in the passenger seat for some other muppet to re-fit!).

They have specifically told me I'm not allowed to take anything else and will be instructing the people who are holding the car to not let me take anything else  Might have a word with them when I get there though and see what I can do!

BTW, I enquired a bit further about the write-off today. It's a Cat. D. Written off purely because of costs. They won't let me see the engineer's report though.
