hmm interesting i thought that with the Nylatron being self lubricating I would't have to bother. and with everything being an interferance fit their is at the moment no space for any grease other than between the bolt and sleeve. and I wouldnt want to put a grease bolt in incaase it all goes pete tong

Edit:

that does seem to make sence, it's just when you have a rubber bush it is a solid part the sleeve does not rotate in the rubber, although it may be the compliance of the rubber that allows the wishbone to rotate

It's the compliance in the rubber that allows the wishbones to move . . .

it's why they spring back to position when you disconnect them from the upright . . .

it's why you only ever tighten up the wishbone bolts (or damper bolts for that matter with rubber bushed dampers) when the suspension is at normal ride height (doesn't apply to rose jointed dampers of course).

If you make the inner sleeve an interference fit something has to give and it won't be an interference fit for long . . . until that happend, however, I suspect your car will handle like a pig . . . because of all the friction in the wishbone mounts . . . meanwhile the old rubber bushes are more or less friction free over the operating range . . . helping the suspension work better . . .

Thanks that makes sense.

A slight redesign is order, I will increase the I/D of the bush to a slide fit and add some provision for a grease reservoir even though nylatron is self lubrication.

Belt and braces is always best.

Cheers will Have prototype 2 made tommorow :thumbsup

prototype 2

Image

have added some cross holes nad changed the fit of the diameter the grooves are to increase the amount of grease within the bush.

possible changes

Reduce the amount of holes 2 x Dia 10mm that will add a large amount of grease in the center or 3 x 8mm holes but rotated about i.e. 2 on 1 plane and 1 90 degree's to it.

suggestions ?

New Idea

Now that's the bush design sorted next stage is the wishbones I was going to paint them but when walking home last friday I spotted that kilmarnock has a place that does powder coating hmmm I thought.

Then when talking with one of the guys at work they happened to mention Surface Technology P.L.C. (Branac)and that got me thinking maybe this sort of thing would be better. the question is what would be best ? this could be one for the north sea guys as thats where all the stuff we make goes

Cheers :D
I did notice the other day that the thread is well read, at least I'm not talking to myself.

All I'm trying to do is use what knowledge I have and can gleem off others to do the best job I can/afford on the car. I plan on keeping her for a while so if I can make improvements while I'm at it then good if I can't but learn why that is still good. The thinking with the suspension was if I have to have to take it all off check it and then get the geo done I might as well tidy things up a bit so it lasts another 10 years.

If anyone has any idea's / Spanners to throw into the works I am more than happy to take them onboard.

Thats why it took 3 revisions to get the Bush right.

had a look at your garage pete and did think hmmm but the car has no wheels and I don't fancy carrying it :P

Nizzy - mate, this is the example of a top SE tech thread. Just because you're not getting many answers, don't think it's not important. I, for one, am keen to see how you get on.

Might even be in the queue for some of those bushes if you do a run :)

I need to get the balljoints off so I can get it PTFE BS????? Deep sea something coated :D.

although they might be green :(

I will see about tooling up for the bushes ;)
