As the lotus is moving rather slowly I thought I would have a bash at the clio, the battery is flat and the Bonnet is stuck down.
My thinking was I would be able to remove some of the plastic underneath and blooter the catch open with a screwdriver
alas no
the radiator gets in the way. I have tried the usual pull, push, shove, jiggle methods anyone got any other ideas's

I was expecting that answer! Can you not get hold of the cable case and pull it like you can with an S1 boot?

not without breaking the plastic body that holds the handle in the car at the moment when I pull the handle the cable just stretches I get the feeling if I where to rip it out and get a pair of pliars onto it It would just snap

Serious mode: get someone to firmly bang (punch) the bonnet just above the catch. while you pull the release lever.... might work.
Dissapointing to hear that renaults have not yet improved.... I loved my 172 30% 0f the time... the other 70% it was broken

I had a Laguna where the bonnet catches kept breaking (little plastic clip that holds cable). Anyway, I had to get underneath it,remove the under tray, shine a torch up through the engine bay and if you can see the bonnet catch, you can open it with the longest flat head screw driver you can lay your hands on.....alternatively, is there such a thing as a battery booster that plugs into the ciggy lighter (or did I dream it

)
Good luck whatever you do - if you go for the bonnet catch method,be prepared to lose a healthy amount of arm and hand skin...

P.S - you can't buy the plastic clip..you need to buy the whole catch which cost 50 sheets ten years ago

I recon it's just full of crud and thats what's jammed the begger, If i remove it and strip it down clean it and oil it up it should be fine

s crossed:
the screwdriver was my original idea but when you can't get to it
although my other option was prise the front of the car off

If you just want to start it, use a normal battery charger (low current one <20A) connected to a cigarette lighter plug, turn the ignition to the accessories position and insert into the plug - then charge it up slowly through the plug.
If you leave it like that for a day you'll have enough charge to start it once at least.
Cheers,
Robin
