Gary... a motorbike/road helmet will be fine for trackdays... but, if you decide to race, then you'll likely need a helmet specific to that job (Snell SA2000/2005 approved).

However, you can't use SA2000/2005 on the road... so, swings and roundabouts. Go try some on. I bought from demon-tweaks but sent it back for another size as it just wasn't right

If it's just for the occasional trackday, and you are happy with a road helmet... my choice for coolness would be the Roof Boxer.

Some tracks or trackday organisers might insist on BS6658 Type A (not type B) approved helmets - these are for motorsport, main difference I think is that car helmets are fire resistant, bike ones are not. See here http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=52&i=13304

Knockhill never been fussy for trackdays though, bike lids fine for them.

Same helmet I've got in a different colour (and Rossi). Can't fault it.

Quality helmet at a reasonable price. :D

Have a look in here also, prices are usually good. http://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/hermes/shop/13,1,100

Yup - on shaving, I've found that I'm actually a conehead - which explains the constant hassle I have finding a lid that doesn't give me brain-ache.

Don't jump in ('cos it's not like you're impulsive or owt) but spend time trawling around and testing out. Important

I bought mine from http://www.fmhelmets.co.uk/

They are very cheap and the fitting guide on the site worked on my head :)
I had the Axe South Park before and have the W10 Mono in Satin Black now. They do snazzy visors too.

There's been a lot of changes in bike helmet approvals recently meaning many that would have been MSA approved are not, get a copy of the MSA blue book if you want to understand what is legal and what is not (plenty on here who have a copy), I believe most new bike helmets are not MSA sanctioned any more, regardless of their approvals for bike racing.

If you want a helmet for car driving get a car one . . . they are not the same shape as bike ones for good reason and I guess this is why something that passes snell2005 etc probably doesn't pass the relevant bike regs and vice versa . . .

As for picking lids, you can't do that without trying them on if you're in any way serious about getting one that, ultimately, may save your life . . . unfortunately in Scotland this is not easy - I ended up taking a trip down the demon tweeks when I bought my latest lid . . . but If I'd ordered what I originally intended to I'd have got something that was never going to be comfortable or even fitted correctly . . . I managed to get a price reduction and a dark visor FOC by just asking for it which more than equalled the cost in diesel for the drive . . .

$0.02
