Noob saying hello!

Post by Digital » Sun Mar 05, 2006 2:37 pm

Hello all,

just signed up here, will be looking to buy an Elise in the next year or so, so thought I should start doing my research!

I was out at East Fortune yesterday in the wee red MR2, hope I didn't get in too many peoples way! Had a great day out, but got a bit dizzy from all these Lotuses (Lotii?) going past. Ed was kind enough to give me a ride in the Exige, my god, what a car  Also thanks to Colin (not sure if he is on here) for the passenger laps in the yellow 111R, again a stunning car.

The MR2 is my "learner" car, first RWD car I've owned so I figured this would be a good first step before owning an Elise. I would kill for an S2 Exige, but I think realistically I'm most likely to be going for either an upgraded S1 or an early S2 Elise.

Cheers,
Jamie :D

Nice to meet you briefly yesterday.

After a day like yesterday you did well to avoid a trip to Murrays on the way home :D :D

Hi Andy,

yep, I was severely tempted to take a detour on my way home

A couple of my friends from work who were there yesterday were convinced that I'm going to turn up at work on Monday in a Lotus of some sort. Just trying to work out how quick I can get a Lotus if I live off bread and water for the next few years...

Oh, I remember the Mr2....awesome little cars.
I was in the silver S2 135R.

I believe MMC have an awesome little finance deals on new cars but I reckon you should buy the Orange S1 they have in there....my old car!

Looked like this when I had it:

No, stop it, I can't afford it

I had spotted that car on Autotrader (not that I'd been browsing the website or anything   ), it does look very nice :thumbsup

Hardtop too, hmmm... I'd imagine they'd fall about laughing if I offered the MR2 in p/x, but the Integra might be worth a try... Off to check the piggybank!

Hi Jamie,
Original MR2's are ace, I used to have an F plate coupe. Obviously the same layout as an Elise but also very similar to drive, just a wee bit heavier. Much more practical though and well made.

Cheers,
Ali

Hi Ali,

you seemed to be one of the ones that was constantly passing me yesterday! Love the blue body/black wheels combination on your Exige 8)

The MR2 is surprisingly porky for such a small car, round about 1000kg I think. My Integra is only 1100kg and it's huge in comparison!

Cheers,
Jamie

:welcome to the fold. I'm sure i've seen you post on SCC. Seen you a few times on track yesterday. Got some footage of you on the vid (breifly). I had an MR2 too. One of the 1st of the mk2 shapes. You know the crap 120bhp ones with no rear spoiler  . Put some woosung dark horse tyres on the back and it went sideways everywhere  . Always wanted a blus mk1 when i was younger but struggled to find one that didn't have rotten rear arches :(

I got some footage of you also, and have to say that watching it back you were really spot on at spotting cars approaching early and letting them straight by!

TVR boy could have learned a lot from watching you :D

I think if MMC realised how many potential Lotus customers they could get by doing trackdays more often, Knockhill would have a booking every month, minimum! :D

Hi Jamie,

Good to meet you on Sat.

Just joined up myself. Thinking along the same lines as you.
Need to get some pennies together to buy one..

Can't wait.

Cheers,

Tom.

Cheers guys,

I was really conscious of having the cheapest and slowest car on track, so really didn't want anyone to think I was one of the hot hatch brigade (sure you know what I mean  ). The speed differential was quite big in some cases, so I figured I'd be better off trying not to get in the way - I still managed to find plenty of free track to enjoy myself though :D

Andy, I know what you mean about the TVR, I was out in the yellow 111R (as a passenger!) for a few laps, and he wasn't too keen to let us past, despite clearly being much quicker. Didn't see any blue flags either... Maybe he was taking it easier after seeing what happened to the Tuscan

Tom, good to meet you, and thanks for taking me out in the Exige, I think you downplay your own driving too much though :thumbsup
