Z4M

Post by max1966 » Wed Sep 12, 2007 4:26 pm

So you find yourself wandering round the BM dealers at lunchtime and the sales manager asks if you would like a test drive in the very well discounted ex demo Black Z4M, do you shake your head and go back to the office to work or in the interests of science give it a go?

So I gave in test drove it and actually quite liked it.

However the first brake application almost put me throught the windscreen and the harsh clutch and viscious power made manual shifts less than smooth from a standstill.

Had to be quick so popped along the A1, up round Carberry and back, only problem being I knew the route and gave it the berries and the salesman told me to slow down!!!!!!!! Come on its a performance car and as I knew the road and he didn't whats that all about.

No way was I even at 8/10th of the cars potential, as I reckon I'm a smooth driver and still quite reserved behind the wheel, I can't see the point in allowing test drives and then insisting on driving Miss Daisy.

Had a similar experience recently when trying a WRX, maybe this does say something about my driving, hey ho.

Similar experiences?

the last test drive i was on was with graham from mmc. he told me to rag it so i did, bought the car and have been happy since 8)

bear in mind that 99% of people that buy (and sell) bmw's do it because of the badge. they drive a fast car so that must make them a fast driver etc etc...

you should have offered to take the salesman out in the elise!

Yep, Greame encouraged me to give it a go too... but it was wet, and it was the first time I had tried 48's so was probably quite reserved compared to what he's used to.

"I reckon you could take those corners at an extra 30mph and the tyres won't give Andy"

I also was able to rag a VX220 Turbo at a Vauxhall dealers in Glasgow.... had to wait until M8 slip roads though because I find the road surfaces are shocking over in the Weeg. Salesman was pretty quiet on that one mind.

Must be your driving ;)

Ask Graeme about some of the crash he has been involved in and it makes it even more remarkable he is such a good passenger. He looked rather less relaxed when I took him out in the Exige at KH in the wet

gave me one once he knew i was being serious but wouldn't let me do anything over a conservative 30!!

I've had a few fun experiences on test drives.

When I bought my renaultsport clio 172, the sales man had never driven one, and said 'I'll just take it down the road, and find somewhere quiet for you to dive it :? .. so off we go, after a while, he seama to be quite enjoying it, so I remind him that it's me taking the test drive...

So, I take over the driving; onto some roads I know, get a feel for the car, and give it some... prob to about eight tenths... after 5-10 mins the sales guy has gone very white, asks me to stop suddenly, throws open the door and chucks up :puke .......

Graeme at Murrays was great for letting me give the liz some abuse.

I also test drove a Scoob WRX Sti at a scoob open day, the sales man (Harvey at Halleys in Milngavie) could not have been more cool! I had it off the ground several times, and a couple of oversteery moments, and he was cool. 8)

Out at Eastern were we Malcolm?

Alix bought her mini from them, so I was in the exact same position as you, in that black Z4M... it is lovely! Not that competetively priced though, as to really unlock the potential you need the CSL wheels. Have a lookie on PH, you might get a better one ;)
