:( :( :( :( :(

Absolutely gutted...Felt sick when I heard the news breaking last night...

He was a legend - Met him briefly at KH last year, during the BTCC when he was guest driving in the Carrera Cup...

My ten year old was so excited to see him, he slipped through the barriers and headed for him - Hazel gave chase to catch John and say sorry, but Colin was happy to have a quick chat, pose with him for a picture, and sign his cap...He just came across as just a normal guy, with no pretence...

R.I.P. :(

Followed him on the RAC rally every year and will never forget 1995 when he won the championship. WRC seems a poor imitation now :(

The man was a hero, total commitment everywhere. This is a very :( :( :( sad day

Long may Colin be remembered, a great loss to motorsport, a great loss to Scotland... this is tragic news.

The fact that children were also involved makes me feel even worse. My thoughts go out to all families involved. I can't begin to imagine how they are coping with the news of losing not just 1 loved-one.

I'm devastated.

As is the case with many of you guys I'm sure, growing up in Scotland in a car-daft family the McRae family were heroes of ours. Colin in particular for me as I was a little young to recall some of Jimmy's heroics.

We used to follow the local rallys such as the Snowman and the Granite City and when the latter was part of the British Championship both Colin and Jimmy were huge draws to the forests. I can remember on one occasion being close to tears when we never even got to see Colin due to a broken diff on his Sierra (I was only 10 or so!).

Another occasion not so long ago he guested as the course car driver in a Works Puma at the Speyside Stages. Equally gutted on this occasion as my uncle and brother walked deeper into the stage than a few of us, and got to meet the man where many people probably did - pushing his car back onto the road after an off!

But I suppose the latter really sums Colin McRae up. He developed a reputation as a reckless driver, but that was probably bourne out of the fact that he always pushed to the absolute maximum of both driver and car. That's why he became the youngest ever World Champion and was widely regarded by many of his peers as the fastest rally driver in the world.

Scotland, Britain, the motorsport world, has lost a true legend. But we cannot even imagine the loss that must be felt by the families. My thoughts are with them, it's a sad sad day.

Aw crap no! A legend and an inspiring motorsport hero of our times. I've loved watching his all-or-nothing attacks since I was a wee lad! A sad loss for all petrolheads and no doubt utter devastation for his family.

Was watching some ITV2 Best of WRC stuff not long ago, and clips of Colin still get the hairs on my arms standing up!

RIP.

Devastating new's Indeed, and a tremendous loss to sport
I meet him several times from way back when Jimmy was @ the front of the pack rallying in a Manta 400 and Colin further down the field in Nova always down to earth
my heart goes out to those close to him and his family
The faintest ink is more Powerful than the strongest memory.
