My mates missus has a 56reg 1.5 GLX Swift. Black with grey stripes.

Looks nice, is quite nice inside and he says it handles reasonably well. Good choice for a daily runner IMO.

I have not driven a swift, but every thing I have heard about them has been very positive. One of my mates test drove a few; mid range model & GTi, and said the GTi was in a different league.

If you are looking at Ka's for £6K, you could easily get a deal on a Fiesta for that...

I hate Arnold Clark, service in my experience has been abysmal... but, they do sell cars at OK prices:-

Fiat Grand Punto 1.2 Active £5988 Unused '07
Renault Clio Expression 1.2 16v 75 £6988 '07 Plate

With you on that one, I had shocking service from Arnold Clark when I bought a car. Never been back, just use them as a benchmark for hagglling with other dealers!

I've been using them as a bit of a benchmark also... for example managed to get them down to 4% flat on an 07 pre-registed Panda (putting a £1k or so down on sticker price £5888) then went to Perrys (car supermarket kinda place) and asked them if they could beat it. They offered the same, but for a 57 brand spanker. Great deal really, but SWMBO put paid to that one

AC were also doing a year old Ka with only a few thousand miles for £4999! Same finance offer as above.

Doubt I'll find such good deals on a Swift. There is a Swift Sport up at Foveran but I daren't drive it!!

My missus has a blue swift with silver stripes, it's just the base 1.3 but it's got a really good spec, it's nippy enough, body control is surprisingly good and she's done around 10000 miles in it, mostly around town and she's averaged over 40 mpg!

The residules are strong as well, i managed to squeeze the salesman down and got a brand spanker for a smidge over £6000 inc met paint!

My dad has a swift 1.5 and reckons it was well worth the cash. Not too bad looking car either, his is a darkish metallic blue with dark grey option 6 spoke wheels, looks pretty nice really as far as small cars go, probably punches a little over its weight / price in looks anyway.

Believe it or not, it makes an Elise look pretty small too ;)

Had a Swift as a courtesy car from MMC last year. I was really impressed with it. It's pretty nippy and handled well for a car in that range. I think you also get a fair amount for your money with them.

Fiat Punto (courtesy car from insurance co for 2 weeks) was one of the worst cars I've ever driven.

Never driven a Ka but I've heard they're actually quite good from most folk. I just hate the look of them though.

I think I'm going to go for the 1.3 (if I want "sport" I'll go drive my sportscar!!), see if I cant get a year old one that's been spec'd up a bit with alloys. There might be some good deals to be had on pre-registered 07s. Strictly no stripes or checks though

Ka was surprisingly good fun to drive, but as you say, they're not the prettiest. They are starting to feel like an old car, even inside. That tickety Ford Anglia engine doesn't help either.
