Opinions please?
What are your reasons for going to Skye in the first place?
If they are related to enjoying some excellent driving roads, you would make a good decision to take either of your Lotuses. However this assumes the chance of decent weather which at this time of year, is much reduced from the already variable chance in the summertime
If you bring risks and probabilities of loss of traction into the equation, it would seem the Exige is a poor choice due to tyres. Didn't notice what tyres are on your Elise though.
I have taken my Elise on a few waterlogged runs in the past, on cut slick tyres, and very much regretted it as I've been stressed all the way through, waiting for that unpredictable slide that punts me in the ditch. I'd have enjoyed the trip more in a regular car, especially if my goal was some nice hotel destination and some relaxation rather than a purpose-designed road run.
My vote = regular car. This preserves your Lotuses, and your no claims bonus, for brighter drier days on Skye in 2008

I don't get all this stress about the wet...mibee all you guys drive much much faster than me normally but i drive our elise on yokohama 048s (i think - whatever is standard on new elise rs...) and i've not had any more trouble in the elise than i have had in our saab 9-3...
i just take it easy, no serious acceleration especially before the apex of the corner, and everything seems to be fine. but then like i say mibee i just drive much more conservatively than everyone else...

Phraze, if your 111r is standard it also has AD07's which I drove in all weather with no problems.........however the 48's are very different....
You can have some fun filled spins in empty car parks with them though!
Decision will be made on the day.......looks like astra/leon or elise though!
In which case you want to get there. Period. And also stress-free to enjoy the whole weekend. The problem with deciding on either Lotus even on the day, is that you can't really be sure of the weather once you get 50 miles from homemeatball wrote:A wedding is the purpose of the journey!campbell wrote:What are your reasons for going to Skye in the first place?

I am the last person to treat my Elise as a fair-weather car, believe me, but a gamble against a long trip on cold wet roads is just not worth it IMHO.
Whatever happens, enjoy the trip, Skye's a great place to go any time of the year, and do let us know how you get on

Keeping an eye on the forecast too......rossybee wrote:I'd be sorely tempted to drive sensibly in the Exige - giving a sense of occasion for a special occasion
Meant to say, the exige is sensible to the caterham/westfield that I saw being driven yesterday......the driver nust be nuts!
Was on the bus so couldn't see what it exactly was!
