Dont really think its a young/old thing. Its more of a mature/immature thing. An old guy driving like a twat is as much of a menace as a young guy driving like a twat. Both are still twats tho! Maybe the police just have it in for the guy. Sounds unlikely but guess its possible. In any event, hopefully everything will blow over and nothing will come of it.

Edited to add... have also been a twat in the past and had to make do without a licence for a period of time for demonstrating twatish tendancies.
Maturity has zilch to do with it aswell  (well maybe in this case as he gave it some beans)

You take 2 of the same cars(say an Exige, or better an F355  ), 2 drivers who both drive the same(civilised in this case) but one driver is young looking and the other is slightly older, i would bet the young guy gets pulled for an on the spot "random" check where as the older looking driver could drive merrily on his way

I think it was mentioned before but I can't be bothered checking and it's worth saying again.

The police like veryone else in this world they are no different can be twat's, some even get power trips. and If you drive a bright orange sports car, well let's face it, it's a tad conspicuous they will pick up on it more than they would a brown fiesta.

as long as you drive sensibly and within the law you will have nothing to worry about it you constantly get pulled ask them for a copy of a "proof of getting pulled certificate thing" then if they keep doing it and they are taking more than a healthy interest in you then complain loudly.

lol at the younger guys getting pulled! :P

i got pulled by a dog van when i passed it and 2 other cars.
was dry, straight road, didnt exceed speed limits (was obvious careful of that seeing i was passing a copper!).
i got pulled. the police man said i was driving dangerously. ermm, no i wasnt.
i was about to argue - when he asked me "how old are u?"
then i realised that arguing would just get him higher up on the horse.

this was when i had an impreza turbo.

got pulled once in the elise - when it went sideways round a corner in the wet. but i was older and i guess ive lost my boyish looks :P
no arguements, quite reasonable "watch urself" - was in fact going to turn back coz it was bit too greasy and dark.

1st pull over was from an ordinary policeman, 2nd was from a traffic policeman.

quality of service was remarkable...

used to rev it in towns from starts. i was a d1ck. got a talking to from 2 bobbies on the beat. at the time i thought, "fck, i wasnt dangerous".
years later, and a couple of near misses with stupid stepping out children, 20 mph is plenty for me.

in the good old days, m8's dad had a aston martin v8 vantage.
that thing was built for going sideways... and it did.. all the way from the VG store up the highstreet to past Spar...!
wonder how many points he would have got for that now?!

I showed the following video clip to a class of primary two school kids yesterday. One burst into tears when she saw it.

If you think the cop gave you a hard time, then I can assure you that these kids would make you think again about your speed.

Do you know how far you would take to stop if a kid had run out infront of you ? Probably wouldn't have seen them anyway if you couldn't spot the cop car.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but I have given first aid to a seriously injured child hit by a car doing far less than 30mph and will never forget his face looking up at me and asking whether he was going to die.

I have driven with many of the guys on here and while they may go at quite a rate of tuts away from built up areas, they are good at keeping to the limit in towns and not attracting attention for the wrong reasons.

Still, I hope nothing comes of your encounter this morning, lets hope its just a wake up call

one of my funniest memories is my m8 being pulled by 2 beat cops.

my m8 Rab had a "verona green mini" that was older than me with drum brakes all round, one cop jumped out in front of him and nearly got run over as my m8 (who was not speeding but was in 1st gear) struggled to stop .

Once my m8 had pulled in at the side of the road an upside down police head apeared at the window (he was easily 6'6") and said that my m8 that he was "going to fast, he could tell by the engine note" my m8 replied "it's a mini they do that" at that a second upside down head apeared and asked in a very agressive and threatening mannor "have you ever seen someone splattered across the road?" yes was the reply "I saw an old woman get run over in galston" at that I p1ssed myself laughing and all that did was set my m8 off thats when they gave up and said "on your bike (strange as we where in a car) and keep your speed down"

it was funny although maybe you had to be there.....

totally agree with the post about kids , however id be rather concerned if kids of that age were hanging around in the particular area were I exceeded the limit, If I did even break the limit. Dont try and turn the post into somthing its not , I have a primary school at the bottom of my hill. Everyone has seen those adverts , everyone knows the concequences, we all drive relativly fast sports and should know when to unleash them. maybe i have put my point across wrong by mentioning "main st" , the part i drove on is more like dual carridge way than build up area .

I could have probably seen about 100m of open, well lit road infront of me, the cop car was maybe 2 cars behind , as you may know rear visibilty in the exige aint too hot , but its whats infront of you in terms of safety/knocking people over that matters .

not trying to argue bout the whole speed kills thing , but the post is being twisted to make me look like some idiot driver who has no respect for other drivers , pedestrians, cops and even children.

j33ama - digging a hole !

It's like the jimmy carr joke on topgear when he was discussing being able to drive faster on motorways late at night, somone mentioned kids and he replied well if kids are playing on a motorway at 2am they have possibly more serious problems that need addressing.

Speed limits are speed limits alot of those limits are wrong and outwith their 80% speed (the normal speed 80% of people would naturally drive at) driving slow on a road is as dangerous as driving fast. if you dont beleive me drive down along the motorway at 50mph and see how destracted you become because your brain get's bored.

my house was on the main road in sunny Hurlford, that road is a 30mph road and I can garentee that nobody has driven a car at less than 40mph since the dawn of time, I have never been knocked over, I went to school and it had another main "30mph" road nobody got knocked down on it either at secondary school it was a 60mph limit and 1 person got knocked down but he was out his face on a cocktail of drugs and alcholol.
in town/near schools/houseing schemes etc I can't think of a single person I know who drives like a twat in these places I have been known to drive quickly but i don't bomb down residential streets and if someone does then they deserve all they get. but blipping the throttle on a town center style duel carriage way does not make someone a child killer.

this has rambled on a bit and I apologise but I have just finished a cheeky red :D

Likewise I'm not meaning to sound like a killjoy - agree with you Nizzy tho over holedigging comment

Believe you me j33ama, I love to "make progress" in the Caterham (and previously in the RS6) many here won't argue with that  and I agree with Nizzy's comments about frustrating 50 limits where there seems no need, but around town, even 30mph can seem too fast.

Iain's (skyenet) level-headed approach really is the way forward.
