Perhaps if some people had taken on board a few of the constructive points at the start of the thread this would all have dissapeared long ago.
Instead you have gone on the defensive accusing half the forum of things we may not have done to excuse your actions and at the same time condemn us for preaching from our high horses.
Tell you what, stop action like a pair of spoilt kids and we'll all climb down off our high horses.

If you two think your are getting an earbashing then I can assure you it was nothing compared to the slagging I got off some people years ago on the Yahhoo site for daring to criticise the crazy driving on the second SE run I went onEliseR wrote:I won'tj33ama wrote:Quite right to be honest though gary , Forums are about voicing your opinion after all , not telling constant lies to fit in with the "crowd"
I to tryd to be honest in my first post , not gonna bother next time . I'll stick to gearboxes and door panel screws ....and perhaps a few "was it yous" if I am feeling sneakyI got an earbashing before for "tooting" at a slow motorist (who was doing 30 in a 60 for over 3 miles). It was at that point I realised that a few of the posters were buddhist monks who bring nothing but peace and tranquility to our world, and "words of the wise" to c0cks like me!
Online discussion is ripe for things being taken the wrong way and for folk jumping to conclusions. However it turned out that many others felt the same as I did yet hadn't wanted to say anything. Somebody had said to me not to bother turning up for another run but I did, and for many more and really enjoyed them. Run ettiquite was reinforced more and more planning put into them. Loved all the other runs I went on.

A sobering post, you have done well to remain so "on the ball", a lot of people who have cracked under all that.Skyenet wrote:Thank goodness the thread didn't get pulled or we would have missed Doms answer adding to many other good or relevant points as made it Tuts and even in Gary's post.Gareth wrote:I can't believe what I'm reading...truely shocking...
ADMIN, time to pull this thread..if anything...it's giving SE a very bad name.
I suppose my post was bit bit DVLA as J33 put it but in all fairness I was based it on what he had posted to that point in time and still think what I said was fair. His timing wasn't the best after I had just done speed related road safety stuff with my primary 2 class.
About 5 years ago very similar posts were made by a young guy from Boness (Not i wasn't Neil) and on one road run things got carried away a bit with him and another Elise ended up written off, though luckily the driver and passengers in other vehicles were not badly injured. This is the sort of thing folk on here such as Tut are getting at. Firstly we don't want anybody injured, secondly we don't want any Lotus cars damaged and thirdly we don't want to get a bad name for ourselves and attract attention. Dom's advice is sound in that there is a time and a place.
The great thing about this community is that we have a wide range of experiences, views and principles and it good to share these in a friendly helpful manner. I don't feel old but my date of birth reminds me that I am in middle age. I do suppose that one age related factor is that when I was young there was far more respect for things and that included the law and abiding by it (whether it was right or wrong).
Between trying to abide by the law and a bit of luck (well lets be honest a lot of luck) in all my driving career (30+ years) I have not been stopped by a Policeman for my driving, had any points or fines and not even had a parking ticket.
However I feel my views and principles are not age related, they are based on my life experiences such as seeing my wee pal killed by a car at 5, my Dad dying in a car crash when I was 10, my cousin being killed at a crossing, being the first on scene at a fatal crash of a young mechanic, giving first aid to that wee boy three years ago (and I can still picture his face clearly). Being a lone parent bring big responsibilities that it is hard to share and that has affected my driving and bike riding. My Mum, brother and I were left homeless and penniless when my Dad died in a RTA. So age rarely has anything to do with people's views, its their life experiences and most of the ones that had most impact happened year ago.
My family experiences also made me have strong views on other things such as balancing work/leisure time, Scotland's binge drinking culture and education so very likely to spout on those subjects as well. Very little views or interest in Politics, Religion or Sport. However its good to share views and sometimes it makes us rethink our own views.
I hope my post didnt offend you. I was simply admitting to (as I have done before) being a twat in the car at times. I am glad I said it, as it's important to recognise that young guys + fast good looking cars can = disaster.
I think the whole point of my original replies was lost, and that point was that I realised several months ago that what I was doing and the way I was driving was stupid and potentially lethal. Reading J33's thread just reminded me if how I was driving back then, and I replied in a hope that I could help him do a similar thing.
I am no angel in the car today, and I am still learning, but I am much more careful than I was and I give the car and other road users a hell of a lot more respect. I know for a fact based on a few trips with other owners of VERY similar cars, I am a hell of a lot safer and slower.

I didn't reject ANY of the advice, I just merely took issue with the name calling and "bans". All I hope for is people to be honest. If you can honestly say you have never had a moment of madness in the car, or broken the occassional speed limit, then you are a better man than me.kenny wrote:Perhaps if some people had taken on board a few of the constructive points at the start of the thread this would all have dissapeared long ago.

Either way its irrelevant, my driving has improved hugely since getting the car, as has my attitude.

Good on you for not caving into what is in essence bullying. Nothing wrong with speaking your opinion and being honest. Others like to take your weakness and stand upon it to make themselves look bigger & better. It doesnt bother me either, and I will continue to post in an open and honest way. I know that someone reading this post will be able to relate to the madness that can take over when we drive such cars. Keeping that under control and at bay until on track is the key.Skyenet wrote: If you two think your are getting an earbashing then I can assure you it was nothing compared to the slagging I got off some people years ago on the Yahhoo site for daring to criticise the crazy driving on the second SE run I went onIn fact it got so bad that at one point I wondered whether to even turn up for TT2002. Glad I did because it gave me the chance to speak to folk face to face and it was a great weekend.
