Newbie looking for some advice on his 1st Elise AGAIN

Post by cloggie » Mon Dec 03, 2007 11:51 pm

Hey everyone ! still tryin to get to grips wit my new Elise! Think the prob I am having is whoever owned this car before me didnt want to spend on decent tyres!!! Ive checked and there is huge tread on all 4 but still struggling to keep it on the road on the wet ! Whats the best tyres to put on these to give them the grip possible? oh and this little car is bog standard how can i make it more fast and more fun???????

More grip T1R's are the business I think....

But not so great in the dry...

A048s are the tyre to be on - but not in the wet

So I think most people will suggest A037's..... :?:

Also to your last question - take ur pick?? millions of things you can do to them....

Hey cloggie, well I'm running toyo t1-r's on my elise this winter, with 195 fronts and 225 rears. Other people have other ideas, but I think the toyos are great in the wet, and the cash I save on them instead of more expensive options goes towards my summer yokohama a048 budget. The a048's are the single best upgrade I've done - the grip in the dry and even mildly moist conditions is astounding!

As for making it go faster, how do you want to go faster!?! Round corners, on the brakes, straight line?? Good tyres and brake pads were where I started. Engine wise, you'd be looking at a gas flowed head and beefier exhaust to get any real horsepower gains.

HTH

Steve

The best place to spend money on going faster is on yourself and it's not car dependant.

and TR1's have a running in period ;)

A lot longer than yoko a048's anyway - I've destroyed rears from nearly fresh to barelylegal.com in 4 hours at knockhill :D it was fin mind you ;)

The elise isn't any harder on tyres than my audi s3 was, both running bridgestone re040's. I've not been through a full set of toyos yet but would recon to seeing around 10k on them for std road use.

I'd maybe give ali at SLS a shout. He's recently started up after many years doing main dealer lotus servicing. By all accounts he's a top bloke! Well worth a chat on the phone.

As I said, if you're looking for decent hp gains to get off the line quicker, cyl head and zorst are your first port of call. My s2's got the janspeed head, manifold and a cat bypass and makes at least 140.

You got any plans next weekend cloggie? I'd be happy to have a quick look round the car if you like? A few of us going on a run too, if you fancy a few more opinions and a wee blat down to the borders?

Like ken said, don't mind noops - he's probably been on the strawberry wine again ;)
