Sony Pro Duo memory cards

Post by Tom » Wed Mar 22, 2006 11:18 am

I've just bought a new mobile phone. Sony Ericsson all in one blah blah.
It comes with a 512mb card but apparently you can get 1 or 2 gig cards for them.
Anyone (andy) know anything about these? Do i have to buy a sony card? Does anyone else make them? Do you sell them andy? How much are they?
So many questions.....
Hang on I need to nip to the loo....

Cheers :D

(Although not technically car chat, its so i can get some tunes in the car)

Hey Tom, various other people make them like Scandisk. I just ordered a 2 gig bad boy off of ebay for £46 including delivery which is very cheap. I'll let you know what its like when it arrives, says it's an offical Sony one too.

Sweet, cheers Ross. Let me know how you get on. I take it you have a w800 or something similar?

One thing i did notice was, when loading music last night, it was transferring at 128kbps. Does the 80kbps shown on ebay card mean transfer will be much slower?

Also, i dont actually know if w800 can take a 2 gig card?

Just checked sony ericsson website. It seems to say that it will only take up to 1 gig. Might be worth checking though as i dont think the 2gig cards have been on the market very long.

Just found this from sony eric knowledge base:

What is the maximum capacity of the Memory Stick Duo i can use?

The maximum capacity Memory Stick Duoâ„¢ supported by the phone is 2 GB.

This solution is valid for the following product and environment:

W800i

W800c

K750i

K750c

K758c

D750i

Indeed he was, basically Coscto have the 1gb stick for £41 and my mate just bought a 1gb one on ebay for £38.

So £40 for a 2gb is very good indeed! If you want a laugh search the jessops website for it :)

don't mean to hijack the thread but how good is the W800 as an MP3 player then? I need a phone upgrade but not too keen on the the whole orange and white thing. Is it much better than the K750?

Also someone told me there's a K810 coming out that is basically a plain clothed version of the W800. Could be BS though...

It's the same as the K750 apart from some upgragded firmware and the walkman button I think. I just got a w800 and I think it's a pretty good phone and not bad as an mp3 player too. I think the w800 has better headphones than it used to and might be better than the ones you get with the k750. You can now plug any headphones into the cable and still use it as a handsfree headset. I've ordered a cable for the car so it effectively means I can use the car speakers as a handsfree kit :)
