Mini MOT - NLC

Post by The_Rossatron » Tue Dec 04, 2007 1:10 pm

I know this is nothing Lotus related whatsoever but I know there are a few classic Mini owners on here :)

I got the doctors report for my Cooper and the results aren't looking too good.

Failed on numerous electrical things and play in the rear trailing arm, nothing too major here though.

The big thing is it failed for inadequate repair of both outer sills (this repair is about 4 years old) and excessive corrosion in one inner sill and around a seat belt mount...

The guy who touched my up my Elise is going to have a look at it and give me a rough costimate. Old mini's seem to be a modern bodyshops nightmare, anyone know any mini friendly ones? :)

Can't you just pump the trailing arm bush with grease for MOT?

Do they still have a nipple there?

For once, all terminologies were made without double entendre, but I knew I wouldn't get away with it, hence the  at the end

thanks Nizzy - I'll add them to my list.

As for my nipples; I think they fell off from old age....

http://www.mcdonald-minis.co.uk/ are a bit more local for you and have a good rep. IIRC, re-con trailing arms are only about £35, for all the hassle of buying a repair kit and reaming the old arm and bush, I'd buy a re-con arm and stick it straight on.

thanks Woody - I've actually used them before however it wasn't Clarke that did the welding it was the guy next door and to be honest wasn't the best job I've seen and is now deemed inadequate (and it's not any more rusty than it was). I might still give him a buzz as Clarke himself was very knowledgable (though always telling me off for putting parts on upside down inside out :) )

Good plan on the recon arms though, I'll give that a bash.
