Physics also dictates a tyre made of tupperware doesn't grip as well as a tyre made from proper tyre rubber so like I said, try them before you make assumptions ;)

BTW, I also care about how the car rides along with the steering feel and on both those counts the T1-Rs are easily beaten by the Bridgestones and Yokohamas.

Never heard of them but do they look like this?

That's a completely different tread pattern to the Bridgestones so no wonder the grip is a little odd

If I were you I'd change all 4 as soon as you can. If you're happy to spend the cash on decent tyres get Yokohama AD07s from Murrays with the SE discount for around £400. If you want to save cash get T1-Rs in 185s on the front and 225 rears and they should be around £300.

Also, since it looks like the previous owner had no interest in the tyres, I'd suggest getting the geometry checked as it's likely to be all over the place, which won't help!

I'd like to try the ad07s, but would never pay good cash for such a compromised, mass market design ;) Of course if you were to give me a shot of your car for a wee bit simon, I'd be well prepared to make up my own mind... :D

Btw to throw a curve ball into the mix, I'd like to sick a set of goodyear f1 gsd3 xl's onto the car sometime. They were immense on my s3, but I've never heard any elise people giving them a go....

Cheers,

I do love it when the youngsters start fighting :D

I've had the S2 for coming up to 6 years (next week actually) and in this time I've tried out most of the wheel size/common tyre combos. So starting with the first :-

Bridgestone RE040 tyre - good all round tyre, worked well on track with good durability. Wet weather handlling could have been better. Made the car tend towards understeer which was is/was ideal for general use. IMHO it is also easier to drive around understeer and I don't see it as a bad thing unless it's terminal (6/10)

Toyo T1s (195) - value for money it's a better tyre than the RE040's, with better wet weather handling. Was OK on track but went off very quickly. The running in period was dire and I think would put a novice driver of the elise. I recall a F&C run when both myself & Zippy had new tyres fitted the day before and we lagged behing the main group by about 5 - 10 minutes on a shortish run - Zippy's no slouch on road runs! Found the handling to be uncertain driving hard into corners and the sidewall had to load up before the car started to turn (5/10)

Toyo T1s (185) - probably one of the first on here to drop down one size on the Toyos because I found the sidewall loading too much of a compromise to my driving style - I'm quite a smooth driver so it was very noticeable. The 185 corrected this but still had the other problems mentioned above (6/10)

Yoko A048 - fitted to the correct size rims - Superb tyre for track - worth at least 1 to 1.5 seconds per lap. Not the most ideal tyre for cold, damp or greasy roads. Being an R tyre is requires some heat for optimum usage (6/10 for road use - fecking expensive and doesn't wear well)

Yoko AD07 - Excellent dry, very good in the wet. I've never noticed any issues with the tyre creating under or oversteer - but that could be down to how I've set the car up. Works well on track as it does on the road. Excellent wear, works well with no running in period and very good value for money.

I've used all of the above - and I won't be putting anything else on the car expect AD07's unless something very special comes along.

But it's your car, your money, your choice.
