During the miner's strike of the 20s Wiganers broke the strike, becoming scabs and going back to work. This earned them the justified derisioin of the surrounding towns who christened them "Pie Eaters" for "eating humble pie" to management.

Wiganers being a stupid breed embraced this dreadful slur, and making it their own as Wiganers famously love pies. Now Greenhalghs once Pooles...

I like to think there is a certain symmetry in me ending up in Killie, also a town of pie eaters.

Pete

Born Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Moved to Wigan about a week later so I'm pretty sure that makes me a pie eater.

Well you learn something everyday Pete. Weird thing is Greenhalghs is a Bolton company

I'm sure there is no symmetry you obviously just like pies as Mac intimated
I feel, having re-read my post that I have let my hometown down.

Clearly the correct response would have been, "Who are you calling a fcking pie eater."
And then drive round to your house and stab you.

I'm the only person to see a move to Kilmarnock as going up in the world. Kilmarnock is to Wigan as Richmond is to Slough.

As a part time ex Wiganer I knew about the humble pie origins of the term.

And yes, I have sampled one or two of the aforementioned pie makers pies when I was down there.

For research only you understand, and also some of Uncle Joe's mintballs - for the same reason :D

Wigan must be a right coup if kilmarnock is going up in the world, Pies are only consumed at rugby park now on a sat afternoon, for you man in the street it has been replaced with smack

Ahh any discussion of Wigan always has to include teh Famous Uncle Joe and his minty balls.

(Are they even sold outside of Wigan? I have never even seen them in a shop.)

2007 models have a Zenith internal which is stripped down and reassembled by Rolex.

Not a 'real' Rolex. A pre '71 all steel is the only way forward (think Cayman S v 2.7RS - both Porsches, only one's a real Porsche)
Mair throttle, less brake

The real hub of the North Sea... ie. the workers who get dirty and keep it going, not the ones who sit behind a desk all day...

Thay all wear £4.99 casio's or timex watches...
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

I'm with the Casio brigade. A proper Rolex could get your hand cut off where I work.

(even though I sit behind a desk and own a Tag Monza)

I could get you a bamboo Sub for £6 - even has a movement , not battery powered.
I asked where it was made and the 'salesman' turned it over and read with a smile, "Switzerland!".
