yup, its the engine bay one, never been the same after i got it sprayed.
Re: Annoying S1 Bootlid !!!
Yep,
They appear to be sh*t! on the S1. I never fixed mine, but removed the catch all together. The hood sits down fine, and I just lift with the key hooked under an edge of the lid. Probably not the best solution, but works fine

Re: Annoying S1 Bootlid !!!
If the cable operates smoothly then it will just need adjusted properly, I had to tweak mine a little after I had removed the lifd and replaced the release with an electric one.

Re: Annoying S1 Bootlid !!!
Yep, just needs adjusting.
First check that the end of the cable is fully located in the collar where the wire comes through.
Try changing the length of the striker bolt, you can slacken the large collar nut, then screw in or out.

Where did you get it painted?Elisa wrote:yup, its the engine bay one, never been the same after i got it sprayed.
The boot hinge, cable and catch can all be adjusted by some way, most likely just the catch not lining up since the boot was refitted after your paint job perhaps, which points at trying adjusting the hinge first.

I've found the rear one fairly easy to adjust, the front one however
Last time the car was at Ali's/SLS I asked him to adjust it - it's prefect now... so I'd recommend sticking it on ur list for Ali. Maybe not much help to you in the mean time tho..

Re: Annoying S1 Bootlid !!!
i had the same problem before my cable actually snapped.
Try adjusting the boot as above - its possible that it just hasnt been put on properly. it only takes it to be a couple of mm out and it wont catch.
As a precaution though, get a piece of string and tie it around the catch then feed it through the hole where the cable goes just now. give enough play on it for it to sit within the liner of the rear wheel arch. That little investment of time will allow you to open up the boot if the cable snaps in the future.
Otherwise its drilling the rear clamshell!

Hi Elisa,
I totally agree with the guys above, if you can adjust & fix you should do that. I removed the striker bolt from the hood as the cable was totally stuck & I couldn't shut the hood at all.
If you're not sure, maybe the guys that done the respray would help..?
Cheers,
Pete

If you can get into the boot now, then get something tied onto the latch - if the cable snaps and the boot is stuck shut it will not be fun.
It's bad enough poking about when you have access to the boot.
You will probably need a new cable. My car has a cable designed for a manual choke as its boot release now - it's ideal as it even comes with the little handle on the end and feeds straight through
Mair throttle, less brake

Cool, but I am now guessing you've replaced a manual release choke cable with a manual release choke cable?tuscan_thunder wrote:.....My car has a cable designed for a manual choke as its boot release now - it's ideal as it even comes with the little handle on the end and feeds straight through
They had to be from the (rover/ etc) 'parts bin' cause they're fairly cheap from Lotus and that'll be with their 100% mark up!
At least we now know what the Elise boot/bonnet cables were originally made for!?
