Lotus instruction in Scotland

Post by mckeann » Thu Mar 13, 2008 6:41 am

Hi Folks,

As some of you know, i raced my old elise last year in the Lotus on Track Elise Trophy. http://www.lotrdc.com

I am going to be out of the racing loop a fair bit this year (although i am hoping to be racing in a few events, both in and out of lotus's) so to keep my hand in i am considering becoming an ARDS instructor. Obviously i am a relative newbie when it comes to the instruction side, but we all have to start somewhere.

This is just a feeler to see what the market is like in terms of customer base amongst elise owners in Scotland. I'm not looking to make masses of money out of it, but i would obviously be looking to cover the costs involved in getting the licenses, and expenses of actually doing the training.

so, erm, just start shouting abuse and i'll see what you guys think.

Neil,

Sounds like a good idea there will be loads of people on here who would benefit from driver training I am sure. :thumbsup

Do you have any idea where you woudl do it and roughly how much you would charge?

Good luck mate!

Good luck with it Neil.

I think that Sarah girl did quite well out of SE for the short period so there's obviously a market for it.

I guess the bigger issue is who would do your training. The bigger the name the better for you.

Deffo be interested.

I suppose venue could be your issue. Would you be limited to on-track training, or looking at getting somewhere with plenty of run-off, a la Walshy?

Suspect the Ape would be covered for his training side of it  or certainly well connected for finding the best people to do it.

Good idea mate. Wondered if you'd look at this at some point :thumbsup

Watching you climbing in to the pax seat of an Elise is worth money for the laugh value!

TBH - went out with the Ape at Dijon, and were talking through lines. Very useful :D . I know Walshy, as much as he hates to admit it, regards Mckean as one of , if not his best student, and the racing proved the talent is most certainly there.

Anything i can do to help mate, just ask.

Andy

Depending on the location its something both me and Wendy would definately be keen to do.
I am sure the Walshy days are as fabulous as everyone makes them and that they are great fun as well as being a great learning experience. But there is no point me kidding myself that we can be organised enough to sort out work stuff and domestic stuff and then do the travel stuff in order to do one (or more). Something of a similar nature closer to home would be much easier to take advantage of.

Sounds like a good idea Neil. I would think there would be a few people looking for Walshy type instruction but not having to travel the distance. :D

Have you thought about Crail as a possible venue? Plenty of run off and wide track. Probably cheaper than Knockhill.

Neil,

You know I am interested. Would need to negotiate rates of course. Perhaps I could barter some performance coaching in return for performance driving lessons ;-)

Great to see you taking this further. If you want to kick around some ideas, more than happy to help.
