Machine Polisher

I was thinking of buying this -

Thanks to Renmure & J33 I've emailed Dave to see about getting some paint correction done, but after he's done that I want to keep the paint in good condition, thought this would be ideal.....

Thoughts welcome....

The only thing I would be worried about would be overdoing an edge and cutting too deep removing the paint!

If you get the pro's in to detail and use their machine polisher on your car surely, by sticking to a two bucket method wash, etc would keep swirl marks minimised? A better investment may be some decent car shampoo, polish, wax, clay, towels, etc

Yeah, it's been a long time coming as the only decent dual action machine (ooooo err) for years has been the yankee Porter cable (which had to be imported an rewired!). Just depends how much you are going to use it. You shouldn't really be machine polishing your car more than twice a year as it does remove some of the top coat...

I personally don't find them any good for removing wax / sealants although you can use it to apply.

Best advice is wait till you see Dave. He will give you all the advice you need. If you tell him what you are thinking about buying by email before you see him he will demo it on your car for you and let you use it yourself. It really is a good time to learn and see how to do things. I had a small go at machine polishing the ferrari with him but decided it really wasn't for me. I am sure he will love to spend some time showing you how to use your own stuff. He travels all over the country doing and organising detailing meets / advice / demos etc so take aadvantage of him & Bryan when you have them there.

Just annoys me that no matter how careful I am I still get swirl marks on it...!

The technique that worked quite well on my BM was washing it with a hose and a lint free cloth from Megiuars then just lying a drying cloth on it (couple of mins at a time) to soke up most of the water, then giving it a buff... Seemed to do the job quite well!

If you don't think I should buff it more than twice a year I might just ask Dave if he can come round every 6 months or so.

Save me possibly getting it wrong!!!

p.s - AiD I think you are in Roseburn? As I used to see your car about in my last few Elises... And someone told me about a guy around my age that owns a Lotus down that way (guessing its you - I'm 21...).

swirl marks can be a real pain especially on a black car m8 , but I wouldnt go attacking them with a machine poilsher unless you know what your doing . I used to use it on my old fiesta and realised that All I was doing was creating holograms all over the car , best leaving the polishing part to the experts and invest in some good equipment to maintain the finish, once corrected the paint should be good for some time as long as you look after it. When I bought my car I spent about £400 on zymol wax and accessories , iv since realised that you can get equal results from companys like chemical guys. http://www.carwashnwax.co.uk/stock all there stuff or they are in cambuslang if you fancy popping up . I spent £150 with them last week and I should be sorted for summer, I visited them in person and he cut me some really good deals, would hve prob cost £225 online.

Sure Dave will sort you out no probs , I am trying to arrange something for april with him.

forgot to add , products such as zymol HD cleanse will temporarily fill some of those swirls pretty well. HD cleanse is bout £25, dunno what the chemical guys alternative is .

Iv just received some chemical guys Jetseal 109 , through the post as they were waiting on a delivery when I was there , gonna put this on my wheels today , Its meant to be amazing . aero space technology or summit .

Ahh I was just about to head up to Halfrauds today to have a look at some black alloy care!!

Still need to go for a few items however that's one off my list

I'd advise against a polisher unless you've practiced before or chances are that you will burn through the paint in places .... and no amount of buffing will fix that .

...highly recommend Jetseal 109. Not a huge fan of sealants for the bodywork but it works well on the wheels!! Needs a few applications though.

Thanks, I use Autoglym car shampoo with a splash of some turtle wax car shampoo - I find the Autoglym doesn't lather up enough! I then usually chamois in some 'wax it wet' spray stuff. (See link).

I suppose you now have that extra bit of roof and scoop to clean now! I know what you are saying about cleaning it though, Starlight black looks almost mirror like when clean - just a pain to keep it that way, especially the sills just infront of the rear wheels!

Yup that's the annoying bit!! That wax looks pretty good tho..

Well I had a red S2, blue S2 and a silver S2 and I thought cleaning those were difficuly

Drives me nuts!

Will give it a bash though

Oh and I know a girl called Leigh (27) who used to stay in Roseburn (new flats).. And one of my mates Dean from Silverknowes used to pass it most days
