Dans going to repeat the sniffer test this morning... first test was done after system was refilled and run for a while.

He has a std set up to throw on if it comes back clear... if there is exhaust gasses present, then there is a spare std engine to throw in just to get it running..

The second sniffer test came back negative..

So the PRT is getting ripped out and a std set up is going back on.

If it happens again.... then it must be the penguins at it again....

Engine gets hot, rad stays cold. Either water is not pumping or rad is shut off somehow.
I would be looking at the PRT install very carefully, but then again it has worked correctly previously.

Could the PRT be jammed? The bypass stuck shut? It was a pretty rough mechanism from what I remember, none of the components were finished, just rough stampings running in stmped holes, it did jam while I was playing with mine, but open not shut and not hard, just sticky. The thermostat should still operate.

I think a std thermostat would be a good idea, as well as a look at the PRT.

Remeber a big debate on SELC*CK about it, not sure if there is actually a difference or not. Was it the landie part you have/had?

There are a couple of different variants of the kit, both for the Land Rover and the MGF, IIRC. But there is nothing in the name - some people call it PRRT and some PRT. The second R, if present, is Remote. The stat housing is remote in all cases. The first R is for Relief as in Pressure Relief. The stat has the pressure relief mechanism in all cases, AFAIK, so any variant could accurately be described as PRT or PRRT (though Simon Erland insists it's just PRT ).

Rear clam is going back on as I type... the std thermostat has been re-fitted and the PRT confined to the "well it might be buggered" bin....

No other logical explanation for it other than PRT issues.... water pump was whipped off for inspection at the same time as well..... all ok there.
