Re: SE Kames day *26th April*
On the first page I suggested we BBQ lunch for the day, however, EACC have just signed up a new company to run the canteen for them, who I am assured serve up good food at excellent prices, and who will now cover the SE day at Kames. TBH, this is probably the best option in case of bad weather & time etc... As far as I know, the food available will be sandwiches, burgers and the like.

Re: SE Kames day *26th April*
I was not planning on doing this, but just saw a report in SpeedScotland from the 2005 Championships in N1 TUT, so maybe I should have another bash.
"While the Lotus Elise of David "TUT" Duncan may not be as immaculate as that of runner up Alistair Crozier, it ran away from the opposition on the driver's first appearance at Kames.
Matt Gordon was pedalling hard, almost two seconds up on dad Howard in their shared 911 Porsche, but finished a half second down on the second Lotus. In doing so he kept ahead, albeit by a mere 0.14 of a second of Ross Murray who was impressive in his big TVR Chimera. Eddie Birnie was the only TR8 left running after David Child went out in practice.
A8:-
David Duncan 91.21
Alistair Crozier 95.23
Matt Gordon 95.97
Ross Murray 96.11
Howard Gordon 97.86
Eddie Berney 102.19"
However I suspect that FD would be in the mid 80's, but it would still be interesting to see how N3 would do compared to N1 assuming that the driver could still hack it.

Re: SE Kames day *26th April*
It'll be stopwatches for the SE day. The timing equipment is used for sprints and climbs over the country. As this was the first SE Kames event, I didn't want to book it as I wasn't sure if we'd have 15 or 30, and the equipment, and Stan (I assume it's still him?) are another cost on top of the others that would have had to have been split between us. As it is, the numbers will be pretty near 30, and there has been chat of having another day up there latter in the summer, for which I could get the timing stuff booked in for.
Re: SE Kames day *26th April*
Woody, can I just check the format of the day? . . .
Will we get practice time to learn the track in the morning? I'm guessing that would be a good time to take passengers out if anyone wants to. Having not done a sprint before, I didn't realise it was just from a standing start. Is it standing start and one lap, or multiple laps? Do we just line up again for our next go and can basically have as many goes as we want or is it a fixed number of attempts we get?
Got a couple of friends coming down to watch and was hoping to take them out for pax laps, but do you think having a passenger will affect the times much? I'm guessing it probably won't affect me as I'm not that fast in the first place!
Cheers,
D

Re: SE Kames day *26th April*
Dezzy, Kames can now be run in both directions (obviously not at the same time!). In the morning we will be doing the clockwise direction, and in the afternoon the anti-clockwise direction, will probably switch over about 12. We won't really need a lunch break now that we have catering there. With a full-on sprint, the car starts a few meters back from a light beam. This times the car from when its broken, and there is another light beam on track that clocks the car as it laps. As we are not having the timing equipment for this one, the starts shouldn't matter as much. One run constitutes 3 laps, and then you are free to re-join the queue to get back on track as often as you like. Once a car has done 3 laps and exits the track (the exit is in clear sight of the startline) the next car is free to go. The lay-out, start and exit points will all be explained on the day - remember it's half 9 for a 10am start.dezzy wrote:Woody, can I just check the format of the day? . . .

The latest word I have from EACC is that the new toilet block will probably be on site, but may not yet be working (those who know Kames will know why this is relevant

Anyway, I'll post up a summation of all that you need to know in the early part of next week. Off to get pished now

* EACC club members who do a work day at the track be it supervising a day or hard graft - it's all done by volunteers - earn a ticket worth one free track day or so much off of a competitive day at ran by the club (rallies, sprints and grasstesting), so for any future event its possible to have earned it free in advance

Re: SE Kames day *26th April*
Don't be put off going to Kaimes. It is completely different from a trackday.
You are on the track on your own, free to drive at your own pace with nothing else to distract you (such as passing traffic, concerns about holding people up etc). It is a great way to enjoy your car because it feels much faster than it really is. It is also very safe. Over the 2 days I was there recently the worst I saw was a couple of people on the grass with no damage or even that much excitement to be honest). It is easy to drive it reasonably fast, but very difficult I suspect to break the lap record!
It is good for passengers because it feels fast. Mine all seemed to enjoy themselves anyway.
