Honda's are soooo last year, but definitely wanted to keep a 4-pot n/a unit. Decided on what we were getting at the weekend & I transported it home this morning.

My son and I are going to have a bash at this ourselves, although it might take us a fair while as I'm not the most mechanically minded & he's only 7.

It says I need vegetable oil... hoping Olive Oil will do the trick, otherwise it may well simulate HGF !!

I bought one of these a while back, it's pretty good but won't really teach you a great deal you won't already know (good for kids though!).

I can't see the wife allowing us to do that on the lounge rug, though it's certainly a good shout for future (are they not normally 2-stoke)....
The wee man got it 70% built before bed time (8pm)... with a little help. Pistons attached to the crankshaft and lined up in the cylinder block.. sump is connected to the crank-case, all the cams have been 'de-burred' and put on the camshaft in the right order, valves & valve springs are done and fitted to the cylinder head, rocker arms attached to rocker shaft and the head assembly has been fitted to the main block now.

Just really got the sprockets/belts & timing gear to sort out tonight, water pump, fan, flywheel, distributor/plugs & inlet/exhaust manifolds... jobs a carrot.

I think it's great for kids to be honest... the little haynes book is pretty good for that age group too. It's only 40 pages, the first 30 are all about the building... but the last 10 are all theory about how it works.. plenty info for them without getting too boring.

Thats part of our 2nd year Basic engineering subject at Uni, was great fun!

twas about the most hands on engineering we've been allowed to do throughout the 5 years i've been there!!
