Insurance quote

Post by transglobal » Tue Apr 22, 2008 11:06 am

Have been with Highway for 3 years or so paying around £490 for the Lotus and £465 for the Volvo a year fully comp. No compaints. Had a "minor" bump with a kerb in my Volvo XC90 during the winter and had to replace a shock arm plus bits and bobs. Total bill came to £700. I put it through the insurance and paid my £200 excess and was told by the broker that it would only affect my premium next time around by £50 or so.

Renewal notice came in on Friday for the XC90. £795.

Renewal notice came in this morning for the Lotus. £1260.

So much for £50 increase on the premium.

Any thoughts?

Stuart.

That seems fair.... you cost them £500 last year, so, they get you with a hike of £1100 combined this year.... sweet...

Makes you wonder who the idiots really are... the ones that run around with no tax/insurance/mot... or the mugs bending over and taking it.

Direct line do a multi-car policy, and when I was renewing the Lotus in January they weren't too far off the likes of A-plan/Chris Knott.

Exactly gorrie, they make me weep. The Lotus policy hasn't had a claim on it, has 4 years ncb, so nothing has changed. Yet because they know of the claim on the Volvo that hikes the Lotus as well.

Phoned Heritage as I read on here that some of you had a result with them. It obviously depends on what girl you get on the line. Here's the first part of the conversation.

Girl: Good morning sir, what is your renewal premium?

Me: Eh? What's my renewal premium got to do with anything? Don't you want to know who I am and what I drive first?

Girl: No, I just need your renewal premium.

Me: How is my renewal premium any use to you?

Girl: We can tell from that whither we are interested or not.

Me: But my renewal premium is related to the car I drive. If I tell you my renewal premium is £1000 you don't know what thats for so you are none the wiser as to whither you'll be competitive or not. £1000 could be for a mini or a ferrari. How do you know?

Girl: Sir, I can't do anything unless you give me your renewal premium. We can tell from that whither we can be of help to you or not.

Me: Ok, ok, its £600.

Girl: What kind of car do you drive sir.............

I mean, I ask you, is it me thats off my rocker?

"Hello sir, can you tell me what kind of shoes you are wearing?"

I was messiong around with quotes for my g/f on her mx the other day, on the Admiral site (fine tuning the premium as we'd decided they are cheapest for her.)
More miles, less miles, named drivers etc..

I read through the details out loud to ensure I hadn't made a mistake...

'Marital status: Co-Habiting'
She asked me to change it to married to see if it made a difference.
7quid more
Single, 3 quid more again.

Moral of the story:
Don't get married, it puts your insurance up
Don't stay single, if it's not the g/f taking yuor money, it's the insurance company!

Just tested that theory on confused.com.

With no named drivers: £858
With mother as named driver (otherwise identical details): £815

But...

Different insurers came out on top and the excesses pretty much doubled. The insurers with the lower excesses who were at the top in the first quote were still around £858, so no real gain.

YMMV

No matter where I go on this I'm looking at a £120 increase on last year so I suppose under the circumstances its not bad. I've tried putting everyone on the policy including the rabbit but to no avail.

£611 is the best I've got with Sun Alliance through Ashbourne. Was paying £490 with Highway. Probably will go with the £611.

Tried Admiral, Heritage, Hastings, Swinton, Taylor Price but none of them got to £611.

Thanks for your help folks.
