So it occurs to me a good protest would be to pay what you think is fair. Clearly there is an amount of profiteering going on, get people to fill up and then balk at the price and pay what is fair, say a pound a litre. Leave your name and address and tell them they can sue you for the balance.

I did a search on google as I wanted to see how much prices have increased over the years and to see how much taxes have increased to compare the two. No luck yet, but did find this. Where are the trucker protesters now?

As I read it

UK fuel (based on £1.20 a litre) UK fuel (based on £1.00 a litre)

hydrocarbon tax (fuel tax) £0.4835 hydrocarbon tax (fuel tax) £0.4835
cost of fuel £0.5365 cost of fuel £0.3665
Vat @17.5% £0.18 Vat @17.5% £0.15
Total £1.20 Total £1.00

Total tax £0.6635 Total tax £0.6635

difference £0.17 per litre
1 barrel = 158.9873l
=£27.027841

The goverment taxes fuel by the litre and then VAT is added to the combined total.

so to clarify fuel tax doesn't change (with the exeption of VAT +£0.03 per litre)

I still think the price of oil is cheap when you consider how much it costs to drill a well, refine it and transport it to the pumps (a few more steps involved I'm sure). I don't mind fuel price increases due to the cost of oil but I do mind the amount it taxed!!! They want us to use public transport but the only public from where I live into Aberdeen is a bus that only comes every hour (and takes over an hour to do the trip) and costs over £10 return...I can do 2 trips to Aberdeen and back for that. But the main reason I don't like using public transport is because its always full of minks.

They can't say global warming is mainly due to pollution which is why they slap on the taxes on fuel, it might contribute a little but the earths been warming up since the ice age...what started it warming up back then??? Wooly Mammoth farts?

The price of fuel where I stay has been going up almost 1p a day over the last week.

I work for an operator so i can't really comment as these crazy costs pay my salary and bonus's - but oil does not cost that much to produce. we work at a figure of 7 dollars per barrel lift costs. The north sea will be around 17 dollars per barrel. of course you have refining costs on top of that but certainly not 100 dollars worth of refining.

as an employee we get 1p off per litre at the pump unfortunatly we are also about 5p per litre more expensive than our rivals. i just go to asda!!!!!!

Goverment responce to fuel duty
the self supporting worthless bags of horse sh1t wrote:The Government's policy is that fuel duty rates should rise each year at least in line with inflation. This supports the Government's effort to reduce polluting emissions and assists with the funding of public services. In the Chancellor's 2008 Budget fuel duty rates were announced for future years, through to 2010-11. These increases are expected to result in carbon savings of 0.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) a year by 2010-11.

However, in the 2008 Budget the Chancellor also announced that the planned duty increase would be deferred for six months until October. The Government believes that this decision shows that it be responsive to short-term economic conditions.

Even after these changes duty rates in 2009 will still be 11% lower, in real terms (i.e. by making an appropriate adjustment to discount for inflation), than they were in 1999 - equivalent to a 7 pence per litre real reduction - and at the time of the Budget the real cost of motoring was still 13% lower than in 1999.

It remains the case that the retail price of fuel at the pump is ultimately a matter for retailers and their suppliers, and fuel duty is just one of a range of factors which determine the price paid by the motorist.
a rough translation is
"we vote for our own wages and make sure they go up by at least the amount of inflation, and we can claim it all back as an expence. so we don't care :D screw you poor people we live in a meritocricy we get all this stuff because we are good and deserve it, whereas you don't because you don't deserve it"
riot?

I've just written a couple of "pointed" emails to my local elected members........I realise I have prob just wasted my time.......I await the replies anyway!

Something needs to be done......
fuel price increases,
utilities price increases,
interest rates increase.....
so on and so on.....the cost of living increases are getting out of control
wages......they haggle over giving me 3% (and actually only gave us 1.9%).....

THIS COUNTRY IS FCUKED.......no wonder the neds that claim their giro each week are laughing at us all.......

......I should prob stop now!
