Maxsports for beginners

Post by Rich H » Sat Apr 22, 2006 8:06 pm

Anyone out there got any advice on Maxsports?

As normal I'm looking to save money again  and they seem like an option.
Bear in mind this is my only car, but I use the train to travel long distances

Any thoughts?

Cheers

You can get a full set of Toyos fitted for not much more money.

I should expand that a bit more . . .

I like Maxsports, I use single yellows and have commuted on them, driven very far on them, driven in the rain, the dry and the snow on them. I am still alive

As long as the road is just wet (not standing water,) they are just as good if not better than standard road tyres. In standing water they are not as good as normal road tyres. They are pretty fantastic on the track, especially for the money.

If you drive with your eyes open and to the conditions you will be fine.

Saying that, I have two sets of rims and run Toyos on the other set. If the Maxsports have road legal amounts of tread I can never usually be bothered changing back to Toyos after a track day so I just drive about on them all the time.

If they're below the legal limit I will drive to the track with Maxsports on the front, Toyos on the rear and dead Maxsport rears in the passenger seat and change them before and at the end of the track day. Eventually changing the rear Maxsports for new ones once I'm down to the "other" tyre.

You can have a go with my Maxsports if you like, the rears still have to be scrubbed in but after that, a road run for an hour round Fife will convince you.

Busy week this week, I have to do the recy for the Kirkcaldy-Dundee route for the "rannoch return" run, your welcome to join me and try them out.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

I got two good fronts and two bald rears with my spare set of wheels.
Does anyone have a single rear 5 spoke wheel they wish to sell. One of mine is broken. I'm just looking for a cheapy for the track so scrapes and scuffs are no problem.

Yup, I love the noise though. They make the Maxsport whine on white road paint, very smooth tarmac and almost all the time in the wet.
