Even me, the hard of technical understanding, hard to ask 5 times "Did you really stick your brake pads on the wrong way round?". It will be a while before we stop mentioning that one.

Awesome trackday, during the greasy wet start it was drifting on every corner, had so much confidence in the car that I dont usually have in the wet. Hope all enjoyed their pax laps.

A very cold but enjoyable day at the micro climate that is KH.

As I did not book in time...........a big thanks to Paul G for the share of his 340R which always puts a smile on my face wet or dry at KH.
Followed Mac around for many laps and watched the various lines he took as the drying line appeared. (Good effort and car control)
Kept up with Tut for a couple of laps.....he was being hindered by traffic....and laughed at the lurid slides round Clarks and the hairpin.....then he latched on to the Ferrari.
(I remember the guy from years ago ...he did Formula Ford as well.....then went to Formula 3.....then disappeared to make some dosh in the city .....obviously successful)

Another thank you to Scotty C for the RR.............I had just mastered the very vague gear selection ....after a couple of laps .....then lost brakes down Duffus at about ninety tuts......apologies to those that I hindered with my 360 degree spin......when the brakes re-appeared ..... after a couple of pumps

Can't believe that's my first time on track this year! Really enjoyed myself today - had the car on a full dry set up with front and rear ARB's being on their stiffest setting which meant I had a few interesting moments when the drying, but greasy line appeared. Car was a real handful in these conditions with understeer followed by snap oversteer when you tried to improve things.

Was really good to get back on track with the Caterham though - and out lapping with some folk I don't normally.

Another well organised day as we have all came to expect from the SIDC guys, never noticed the extra cars on track or had to wait that long when I was in the pit lane. Felt like some folk might have felt a bit intimidated with the racers being there - perhaps that's something to look at for future, as it just doesn't sit well with me.

Another bonus was the datalogger finally working - so I should be able to get top speed, G's, RPM etc when I get the download software side of stuff sorted :D

Didn't bother me, none were particularly fast and they were all very well behaved.

Ahem, now careful. Clearly I was not the only person doing their own brakes this weekend and it could so easily have been very different for either of us.

Although...

...at least I got mine on the right way round 8)

Never to worry Dave, it's the learning that matters :-)

Typical KH weather forecast. Whilst it wasn't pouring, the track was indeed very wet. I decided very early that although I am sh1t scared in the wet, the best thing would be to get out and get some laps in and I am glad I did. I was particularly slow, but didn't spin and don't think I held anyone up for too long.

Being one of the slower cars, the track did seem busy, but the race cars didn't bother me - it was just a case of keeping an eye in the mirrors and let them past as required - most were pretty paitent and courteous.

I was really beginning to enjoy myself as the a drying line started to appear and I could finally start to feel some grip, particularly under braking, when a red flag came out (surprised that there weren't more up to that point). On climbing out of the car I took a step back to admire the car, as you do :D , and spotted what I thought was a wee sticker on the sidewall of the passenger rear tyre. Alas on closer inspection I saw it was a rusty old nail :( I poured a wee bit of water on it which confirmed that it was indeed punctured. This was at about 11:15 so I headed into the paddock to see if anyone was around that might be able to repair it, but no such luck. Nowt left to do but to nurse it home before it deflated. I did try to find JS to let him know of my situation as I am sure there would have been takers for the remaining time, but he was nowhere to be seen.

There was me thinking that I had done my bit for Karma when I alerted Clarkie to a screw in his tyre right at the start of the session. Fortunately for him it was only just into the tread block so he was ok :thumbsup

Still could have been much worse, I could have happened at Donnington or could have blown out at 100mph on braking into Duffus.

Don't suppose anyone has a used toyo T1-R 205/5016 kicking round do they? Otherwise I think I will need to buy a pair, don't fancy having one half worn one and one new one on the back.

Stewart

Sorry to hear of your problem......

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

It wasn't their driving that I have an issue with - it's the cheeky use of extra track and practice time that I don't think is fair.

Hey Guys,

Another great Trackday, Thanks to John for organising & all the guys for the usual track ettiquette, makes a big difference when you are still learning. I really enjoyed myself...Thanks for the PAX laps Mass & Tut, they were excellent fun, and it's good to see how these cars can be really pushed to their limits. :thumbsup

Stewart, you could try phoning some of the tyre centres, they usually have part worn tryes that might match better...Hope you get it sorted. It's a bit concerning that there could be nails on the track too. :?

I tend to agree wih Mac, thought the racers could be a bit intimidating for the beginners like myself, although I am sure that is not thier intention...and the trackdays are probably busy enough without the racers too...just my two bob's worth.

John, (XCL), would like to see your pics from yesterday, you must have some good uns there..? :D

Cheers,
Pete

Pete, I think it is unlikely that I picked it up on track itself, I probably just didn't notice before that. I spotted Clarkie's before he even went on track.

I have priced toyos from Camskill and at 65 each plus fitting I am probably getting off fairly lightly. I'll keep the good part worn one as a spare.

Glad to hear it wasn't on the track after all Stewart. E-Tyres will come to your door, fit your two front tyres, & balance them...Are those Toyo T1-R or R888, seems a bit pricey for T1-R's, I think I was quoted about £80 for both front Toyo T1-R's, fitted, balanced at my door by e-tyres, but they ran out of stock that time...They did my rear tyres though, and did a good job, I like the idea that they come to you, rather than you going to the garage...wish I had thought of that online franchise :D

Another great SIDC event, cheers John :thumbsup Thanks to Stewart for spotting the screw just into the rear tyre and no more. That wouldn't have been a good start to the day

Started tentively with the new car in the wet and being off par from the night before  Car was handling great apart from growing understeer as the track dried. I had the pressures at 24R/22F but remembered it was in a MMC during the week. They've returned the pressures to the book so it was sitting a 31psi all round. After I got the pressures sorted it can certainly go round the corners :thumbsup

Took Kenny out for a few laps and he wasn't looking too white after so must have been OK  I think there'll be a supercharger along some time soon? :thumbsup

It was amusing  watching Tut dicing with the Ferrari, hanging back then tearing off in pursuit of the Fezza again :D

Looking forward to the next one already

P.S. Can't believe you guys haven't had more mileage out of DDtB's mechanical skills
