I think there are two seperate issues emerging;

1. Forum behaviour

2. On road behaviour.

As others have said, regarding the forum, just stick to the sections, or threads that interest you. 'NLC' where relevant could do with some more use.

As to the on road conduct, I think it comes down to individuals to point out to others where their behaviour is not in line with the unwritten ethics of SE. IMHO
with regards to the above, forum behaviour doesnt really bother me as you can filter it out as a few of you have pointed out - It doesnt affect me financially and there is no risk to anyones safety.

With On Road behaviour, this is completely different.
Its only a matter of time before that starts to affect us all. Since i bought my elise, i have been stunned by the kindness of people as they compliment my car, come up and chat to me about it, smile as i pass them on the road etc...
The last thing i want tagged on me is that im a reckless driver because i own an elise.

Im glad this topic has found its way over to SE2 now. Its an interesting debate. :popcorn

I agree with what a few have said about other forums - SE2 isnt that bad!

There's still loads of interesting, intelligent chat, advice on technical issues, track day organising, events, etc. I just use "View New Posts" and skip the stuff with a title that doesn't interest me. The rest is very useful, interesting and informative.
^Exactly what I do.

If its not something you want to read, dont read it. After all its a public forum and people can post what they like. Im not going to moan about it, not like it is going to change anything if I do anyway.
If you prefer the yahoo email system then go back to the ice age and use that. I think the levels of nonsense chat and storytelling on here are microscopic when you compare it to other forums.

I could see a point if the 'muppets' are purposely going out of their way to cause arguements and upset other people. In that case just ban them.

Can we name and shame now? <- just so I can see if i'm on the list...

As others have said, the cars are becoming more affordable (hence i'm here!).
There will likely be a constant flow of people who buy Elises, then get fed up (or realise repairs can be pricey) and move on.
There will be a 'k-series' factor in a lot of it too i'd imagine. The affordable cars are Ks and when Ks go wrong it seems to often be terminal (or certainly serious...)

Where HGF occurs, there should be a SE star rating, next to the user name. You earn stars for your HGFs/Repairs ;)

There have been a few odd/pointless topics in general recently, but as others have said, they can be ignored, and as for anything that has happened in n00bs, i'm rarely in there as that particular forum doesn't offer me anything.

Maybe things will improve, maybe not, but I vote that the first person to register with neons fitted to their car gets a ban ;)

General Rolfe - has a ring to it.

Way better than "the second man to Ironside and engine" - personally I wish that Simon had never done that - "he rolfed it" sounds way better!

Nice edit, but it was actually enlightening to read your views briefly...

It seems you think we all take this very seriously and that several people should lighten up. Okay, it's a valid view. The problem is, your posts containing stories of your sometimes questionable road driving do nothing for you or for people who might want to join the group - let's keep the legal ramifications out of it for now.

Also, and this is a biggie - some of the things you've spoken about doing on the road don't paint Lotus owners as a whole in a good light - lots of people will get wound up about that. We've got a really good reputation wherever we go and it doesn't take much to tarnish a reputation...

Let's be honest, there are very few on here that are saints (if you did come on a run, your eyes might get opened a bit) but we don't boast on forums about what we do and when we do it - the logic is pretty simple. Plus, we're all grown up enough to enjoy it ourselves without having to shout on a forum about what heroes we are.

Some key points that I really do hope you think about:

1. save the hooning for where there is nobody about (and the Eaglesham moor road isn't an example of this...)
2. keep a lid on it in town where people are watching your every move
3. think about people other than yourself - it makes it easier for us to continue having fun

The logic is simple - if you don't piss people off on the road, you're less likely to find you're a target for the Plod/locals with pitchforks.

Fair enough - who am I to tell you what to do? Well, you've come on here, availed yourself of the long list of technical help that's been freely offered - all I ask is that you think about returning the favour and try to tone it down to help out those who have helped you. If you continue to ignore that, you should have no surprise if people continue to get on your case....

I could have sent this as a PM, but you're not the only one who's being referred to, despite what you obviously think. Hope it's a bit clearer.
