To stage II or not to stage II....?

Post by token » Fri May 30, 2008 12:07 am

Hi all,

Have spent a bit of time in "Technical", looking for a general feeling over whether to fit the stage II to my S2 elise S. Not found much mention of the official Stage 2, mainly everyone talking about Larini, etc. I want the noise, don't want the hassle of ordering and fitting an exhaust myself - technically inept, as my granny used to say.

Any reason not to buy the stage 2?

Thanks

1. The silencing material will fall to bits and will spit itself out of the exhaust
2. It doesn't sound as good as some of the other options out there

As much as I have a problem with his (lack of) customer service, Jim at 2bular makes some great exhausts that are considerably better than a Lotus Stage 2. If you don't mind waiting longer than the time quoted to make your exhaust and you don't mind pestering Jim on the phone to complete it, then I'd go for the 2bular.

Not sure what a Stage 2 costs TBH, but if I remember correctly, my 2bular on my old Elise 111R was about £430 including VAT and delivery.

When we picked up Elaine's 111R - I made fecking sure I got a standard exhaust to put on it for when the Stage 2 blew itself to bits. Believe Andy went through 3 in about 2 years, although his methods of destruction testing are a little more rigourous than most...

Stage 2 on my elise is still fine and dandy after 3 years and I like the sound.

Safe to assume then, that i'm not going to run this elise with a stage 2 for 3 years, 20 to 30K miles, then swap the still fresh exhaust into my next car?

I'll personally give you the feather duster of shame if you do ;)

My stage 2 does sound nice but recently has developed the odd fizz/tizz or 2 , I one think I love about the stage 2 is the tailpipes, they are subtle(unlike the exhaust sound) and look awesome Ithink, much better than the standard Jobbys . This is for the center exit on the exige though , obviously the elise is different.

Id be keen to know if Jim can produce a system with the same tail pipes ? If so I would love one ! hear nothing bout good things bout his work.

My stage two used to tizz, took it off and it had the rattle of death. Kennys sounded the same when we removed it a domsport one night, massive rattle when you shook it. I think its now on Hambos S1 though

While on the topic , the noises from my exhaust are only getting worse particularly after discussing it on this thread :?

is there anything I can do to help with the fizz/tizz or am I gonna have to save up for a 2bular ? 8)

cash is tied up elsewhere at the moment or id order one today !
