ah fck
i just typed lots and clicked on a link and lost it all.
i aint typing all the kak i wrote again, so heres the condensed version...

i aint on here much as no lotus, no internet at home (tho i do have an inside toilet).
when i come on, i go to general chat to catch up with peeps. see whats been happening. might find rants, or drive write ups, or new lotus cars.
it is general. its the main place to be. its the lounge, the pub, the meeting place, the pits (as in where we all stand at KH if we aint driving).

valuable stuff like techy stuff should be separated and not lost in the mix of generall chit chat.

there are good reasons to have 2 separate forums - Off Topic and Lotus General.
However, this is a friendly community and i think one of S_E main good points is the welcoming inclusive nature that is reflected in the General Chat.

Maybe u could set up a Lotus General forum and see who posts in there, i dunno. I am all for listening and trying out stuff.
However, my insticts say that S_E is great because of the people and reflected in the variety of posts in our main point of contact.

phew, my poor fingers!

Phil got it right, i think General chat makes the S-E community what it is, and is right in saying that it is like the pub. Its where we discuss new cars, not just from Lotus but other manufacturers, we also speak about every day stuff, phones, houses, or any other stuff on our mind, lets not forget, this is GENERAL chat :thumbsup

General Chat is the epicentre of this website for me, and is 90% of the reason i log on, has relatively good posts and a good bunch of people posting on them.

And btw Phil, if thats the condensed version, the original must have been a whopper :damnfunny

For what it's worth I would like to see a "total nonsense" section where you would post if you were deliberately starting a thread that was meant to be humorous with no real content that is in any way related to SE. The sort of thread where you know it won't matter to anyone in the group whether or not they read it. The sort of thread you probably start when a bit tipsy. Etc. I would guess that would maybe be ~25% of the threads currently started in general chat.

If, OTOH, you're posting for help or advice, or to inform people of something interesting that you've discovered, or something that has happened in your life (births, deaths, marriage, divorce, etc), whether or not it has anything to do with SE, then General Chat is the place to go.

Technical is technical.

Job done.

Cheers,
Robin

Could folk not just stop posting utter sh*t! Some of it can be a bit funny but a lot of it is just post whoring drivel to the extreme  You know who you are :D

Not that bothered about splitting the forum but some more use of NLC would be useful. I too use the "view new posts" button but it is becoming harder to follow what is relevant and what is not. The various Speedfair topics are an example of this.

If you know a better way of organising half a dozen events over a whole weekend involving 110 cars, then by all means let me know.

F*ck sake Tut - if you can't manage to organise a little thing like that, maybe it's time you retired - I'm sure there would be plenty of willing volunteers to take over!

I think all the old moaners should have a forum section to themselves

This was not a dig at you by any means. Yes we need a thread with all the info and updates, but I would have preferred if you could have been given control to open and close a thread and just updated it as necessary (kind of like the way the Classifieds section works) with new relevant information or any changes. We would have then be able to easily follow the "official" thread without having to wade back through pages of posts to find the key information.

Now that is a good idea... I like that one. I know what it is like trying to plan a road run, the thread normally turns into a "hijack" and the important bits end up getting lost in the banter. Don't know how workable that is, or even the right term for it.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....
