and your car (if you have one - it doesn't have to be an Elise!
As Thinfourth already said...
I always liked the line " welcome to scottish elises you don't need to own an elise or be scottish"
Personal testimonials and recommendations to try a particular supplier or product etc are acceptable in the course of general on-topic posting. Spamming topics with recommendations for products/services for the posters personal profit are not allowed
We don't want it to become an ad fest. I'm not saying don't do it, and in most cases on here, it'll be OTHER people promoting your product which is great, I think we don't want people signing up simply to advertise themselves...?

Greg's suggestion seems perfect too :)

NLC - I like the NLC thing. It means that, whilst there is some drivel in general chat (which there always is...) it is still general chat.
I have/do post on various forums that split into 'anything goes/fun and games' and 'related content' type subforums and it doesn't work too well.
Personally, i'd ignore the non-related stuff, and miss out on a bunch of decent conversations, simply to avoid the garbage. NLC lets you know what the content isn't about, and often the crap topics fade away off the bottom of the page anyway...
'16 MINI Cooper S - Family fun hatch
'98 Lotus Elise - Fun day car
'04 Maserati Coupe GT - Manual, v8, Italian...
'18 Mazda Mx5 - The wife's, so naturally my daily
'19 Ducati Monster 797 - Baby bike bike

we can weed those out quite quickly, IIRC it hasn't happened much to date but we had a couple on SE1...they didn't last long and no-one shed a tear in banning them

Campbell, I like it the way it is, except of course that it should contain the words as suggested by thinfourth.

I'm not convinced about the issues of "representation" - if we had an entity to represent, perhaps, but seeing as how we don't ... anyway, I'm not overly fussed provided the sentiment is "don't be a knob 'cos it makes the rest of us look like knobs".

Cheers,
robin

I think Robin might be on to something there!!!!! Short, sharp and to the point. Winner :thumbsup

Rest of it looks good, Campbell. I think it will help out newbies. I had to post the question 'what does nlc stand for' when I joined. It's obvious now but at the time...... I've only just worked out IIRC if I'm honest, too. Doesn't stuff like that fall into your request to not use txt spk?
Once had a '2006 Lotus Europa - bit more power version' but it leaked real bad!
I'm the unluckiest guy in world when it comes to cars, the last 12months being proof of that!! Why couldn't I just love uncomplicated things instead........................?

IIRC, TBH, LOL etc have been around long before the short text message, as far as I know (sorry, AFAIK!) It's the destruction of good spelling brought about by txt spk that I personally have concerns about!

On balance I suspect we could just as well drop the txt spk thing - it's hardly a core issue - and us dinosaurs could be accused of seeing ourselves as the 1337 what with our YMMV, OTOH and AFAIKs :-p

Cheers,
Robin

Landrover ?? = Muddy shrek spec
Unimog 404S = Very slow silly offroader spec

Did you have the Fezza with you? And were you buzzing around in the Se7en on Friday night?
