What makes me laugh is when people buy a fake watch and believe what they are told..."Yeah honest, its got a swiss movement in it so its as good as the real thing" when infact its completely built in china most likely in a sweat shop and using child labour. At least 2 of my mates have had fake watches that they were told had swiss movements inside, they looked like the real thing but they never lasted a month. I'd say my watch was more than 20 times better in this case.

yeah, well at least 3 of my mates have had fake/replica watches that have lasted longer and looked just as good as real ones...

Back on topic... I think Pete summed it up best with the line "the indefinable pleasure of owning a lovely thing"

I have a scabby old Tag 2000 chronograph which must be at least 15yrs old now, splattered in paint
I also have a Tag F1 with red face and red rubber strap which is different
My main watch is a Breitling Navitimer with both 7 link bracelet & leather strap (I like to interchange), I originally looked at the Rolex GMT Master, but was so shocked by the tinniness of the bracelet I was put off
I love my Navitimer cos it is lovely to wear and own, I feel a roly-poly would be far more flashy

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

I kind of guessed that from the way you spoke of them, wasn't suggesting for an instant that you owned them just to show off.
My grandfather had quite a few watches which were left to me but lost in a burglary before I was old enough to look after them. Shame really, although at the time my Grandmother probably needed the money she got from the insurance than some old watches... I was given an Omega for my eighteenth which was then stolen in another burglary. That really annoyed me.
I bought a Tag after that and wore it every day but I haven't seen it for 3 years, I have a horrible feeling my daughter may have put it in the wastepaper bin in our bedroom and it subsequently got thrown out.

If i had to guess the colour of your watch before seeing it (although i already knew it was a seamaster) i'd have definately said gold.
You just strike me as a gold watch and chest wig kinda guy
EDIT : I'm guessing the next SE event will involve lots of people showing each other their watches in dark shaddowy areas of the KH pitlane

Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.
....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

2 small points I'd like to make,
Whoever's rolex loses/gains time every month - get it serviced. I've never lost more than a minute on mine over the last 7 years.
Dave, Breitlings are not the best watches in the world, fact. They're marketed as instruments for professionals. I know 2-3 RAF pilots that wouldn't p!ss on them if they were on fire - they're shocking at keeping time, and the features are too damned difficult to operate 'on the fly'. They're a watch for people that want to look like they're pilots

(this is statring to sound like an Elise v. Boxster thread!)
A wee fact for those that don't know, Omega is owned by Swatch. Pretty expensive swatches some of you boys have

I think this is down to luck more than anything else Greg. Mine has done this since the day I bought it, it's not a case of it having deteriorated through time. And any Rolex owner I've ever spoken to says that their watch is pretty crap in terms of accuracy. Apart from you that is.....are you sure it's not a fake with a quartz movement ?
It is due a service soon though, so I'll be curious to see if it comes back in better shape.
I am assuming that it comes down to build up of tolerances within the watch itself. The chronometer certification does permit a certain degree of inaccuracy (can't remember the exact figures) which would allow it to lose or gain time over a longer period.

could also come down to how often you wear it, and thus how often its properly wound? I take your point re. tolerances, but losing that amount of time is pretty severe when you're talking tolerances of fractions of milimeters in movements I'd have thought
