Driver training in Scotland, Who does it?
Driver training in Scotland, Who does it?
I really need some driver training to get the most out of my car . I really fancy a track day but I feel at my current level I would be a hinderance and more inportantly I could crash my car.
Who does driver training tailored to the Elise in Scotland? 1st lotus appear not to have a Crail day in the near future, I have emailed. I am tempted to go on the Lotus Driver training day but funds are not exactly great.

1st Lotus (Andy Walsh) does a lot of days at North Weald (darn sarf) He's accepted as the best for the Elise. If you're worried about Trackdays, book on an SIDC one, as they have Knockhill instructors to hand and the standards are great.

I've done the Andy Walsh crail day and thought it was excellent - but I've also done an hour with an instructor at knockhill which might be a good halfway house.
It costs £90 in your own car. You get two laps with the instructor in the passenger seat willing you on. You come into the pits chuffed to bits cos you are "raggin the arse of your car".
Instructor (mid 50s gentle looking bloke in my case) then swaps places with you and spends 2 laps demonstrating beyond all reasonable doubt that you are a girl and you can't drive for toffee. I was CONVINCED we weren't going to make it round duffis for the first time.
You then have 4 x 5 laps with the instructor to try and get better.
I did this session in March before I'd ever done a trackday and its definately well recommended to see what the car can do, and (more importantly) the correct lines at KH. Easily the best £90 I've ever spent, I was on cloud nine for hours! Its also amusing blasting past all the people on the ferrari / knockhill experience in a road car!
Hope that helps.

Don't leave it too long as it will be the best money you spend. Better than any upgrade you can fit on an Elise. Will make a lot of difference to your own road driving and safety, let alone track use.tenkfeet wrote: When finances allow I will look into a Walshy Day.
I did some days with Walshy and then went straight onto an SIDC day where I got him to sit in for a few laps. Then got a pax lap with him in a borrowed Caterham. Now that was a laugh and will never forget it, have it on video as well. Rather mental when he spotted TUT and gave chase

It's good, if a little short. But it gives you the theory. Just don't go practising it on the road!

I learned nothing from it.
Not saying I know about heel and toe etc but just felt it is difficult to explain this technique through a DVD. Sold it on ebay for profit!!
Also nearly fell asleep watching it as Walshy was sooooo dull but I believe his excuse was he had concussion
Never heard a bad thing about his one to one training days.
Hopefully I will do one next year.
