I've been thinking (a dangerous pass time I know (shameless theft from Disney film - bonus points for anyone that can answer without google)).

Malcolm once said on here (I think it was) that Snet was a good circuit for car setup because it had some of everything, so maybe I shouldn't be too hard on the turnip munchers ...

For crossings Speed Ferries will work out a bit cheaper, but their last crossing is 18:00 on that Friday and nominally they have 30-45 minute checkin - I think it's a tall order to get from North of London around to Dover on a Friday night without leaving Walshy's at around 15:00.

On the return journey Speed Ferries is either 17:10 or 20:50 - again you must factor in check in times, so probably leave Abbeville 15:00 or so to get the earlier one - you could get the later one, but that sets you up for a very late arrival at Snet (around 1 or 2 am possibly).

Cheap round trip is ~70/car; flexible tickets (which would allow you to at least amend them to early next morning if you missed the outbound ferry) are ~90/car.

Eurotunnel if you book right now will get the round trip for <120 on a super short stay saver (enough S's yet?) that will allow you to cross from 18:00 onwards on the way out and 18:00 onwards on the way back. They also have a 20 minute checkin or less if it's not busy ... I have driven straight from the main gate onto a train, stopping only for the ticket barrier.

So I would suggest Eurotunnel is better option ...

Schedule (provisional)

Note: although I have times suggested on these routes, please make sure you drive at your own pace and leave times for fuelling, etc. This is not a huge convoy - rather a bunch of people heading to/from the same places at similar times! I think the times are all doable within the speed limits - it's not a race!!!!

* Thursday
Make your own way down to Walshy's on Thursday if you're doing the day on Friday.
Edinburgh to North Weald is 410 miles or so depending on chosen route.
Walshy will suggest somewhere to stay once we have numbers (there's a good B&B near by, but probably won't accomodate 10 of us, so may have to go Pikey lodge instead if the numbers swell).

* Friday:
09:00-16:00 at Walshy's (that's plenty, honest).
19:00 arrive Folkstone for crossing to Calais (120miles, allows conservative 3 hours to get to Eurotunnel port and board train - could be done in 2 if roads are OK).
19:00 disembark Calais (remember the clocks go back in this direction)
21:30 arrive Folembray (136miles, plus getting lost, etc.; arrive in plenty of time for beerage).

If you were going to skip the Walshy day, join us either at North Weald or in Folkstone or Calais as appropriate, just make sure someone is meeting you).

Paul will suggest somewhere to stay near Folembray.

* Saturday
09:00-17:00 at Folembray.
19:30 arrive Abbeville (105miles, plus getting lost, etc.; arrive in plenty of time for more beerage).

Paul will suggest somewhere to stay near Abbeville - the "hotel" at the track is basic, but the beer flows with cheapness.

* Sunday
09:00-15:30 at Abbeville [Note: you can stay longer, but you probably won't want to as Abbeville is fun, but small, and a good night's sleep at Snetterton depends on not leaving too late from here; trains run three times an hour, so you can adjust to suit yourself]
17:00 Calais crossing to Folkestone
19:00 disembark Folkestone (remember, the clocks go forward in this direction, so it takes ~2 hours total).
22:00 arrive Snetterton (150miles, plus getting lost, etc.; probably no beerage, so might make sense to eat en route and head straight to bed).

* Monday
09:00-16:00 at Snetterton (it'll be getting dark by then anyway; I might need to leave earlier to get Rossini to Stanstead as he needs home earlier).
20:00 arrive Outlon Park (210miles but through some really busy parts of the country during rush hour).

I suggest we book a late table at the curry house in Northwich and stay at the travel inn place - the other option is the really great pub/b&b down the road where we've stayed and eaten before, but we'll need to be sure of arriving on time if we want to eat there - cannot remember what it's called - it's where Neil had the dodgy pint that year . Big advantage is that we can park the cars, drink & eat at the same place. But a couple of Tacsi's aren't going to cost anything either.

* Tuesday
09:00-16:00 Oulton Park
22:00-ish arrive Edinburgh (240miles, plus fuel stop and perhaps some grub on the way or just scooby snacks from the petrol stations ).

All the track days are organised by Lotus On Track - you'll need to be members to buy the places - Snetterton is not for novices, so you would need to have done at least another trackday (obviously you have, but I'm talking about your friend) - Oulton Park is not for beginners, though if you've survived Folembray, Abbeville, Snetterton in the last three days, I reckon you'll probably survive Oulton Park

You'll need to assess your friend and decide where he fits in the scheme of things - if you think he would be a novice, best use the contacts page to ask about attending Folembray as first track day - I've not been and don't know how suitable it is - however Abbeville (the second track on our list) is perfect for beginners, so worst case he would need to pax or get instruction at Folembray, then drive in earnest at Abbeville. Paul is generally relaxed provided people play by the rules and drive within their limits.

Let me know if you need any help joining up, etc. LOT do a really good job and their track days are always pretty casual and good fun - well worth the 30 quid for a taster year and the lifetime membership if you enjoy it.

More on crossings - I think we should be able to book the crossings as part of the Folembray/Abbeville trackdays via LoT and get them at a better price.
